11 February 2024 By Alan Straton

The Sunrisers Eastern Cape T20 cricket team have now won the Betway SA20 Tournament TWICE IN A ROW. The Sunrisers are Gqeberha's local team with St Georges Park as their home stadium. Both finals were played in cities outside of Gqeberha. As defending champions, at the very least, we should have seen a 2024 final in St Georges Park and not in Cape Town. If you are sick and tired of seeing Cape Town get all the top notch, top flight sporting and other events. Incompatible Archive Problem Solved – Five Alternative Workarounds

Incompatible Archive Problem

The latest update to Wordpress (6.4.3) has a small hump in the road when trying to upload any plugins as, when using your supplied MacOS archive utility to create a .zip file any compressed file uploaded will result in a "Incompatible Archive" error. The 'problem' actually stems from MacOS's 'Nanny' function that automatically extracts any ZIP archive you downoad into an extracted folder and NOT as a .zip file. This necessitates you having to re-archive the folder before uploading to your … [Read more...] about Incompatible Archive Problem Solved – Five Alternative Workarounds

Our Country is in Massive Poofy Kakka Wee Wee

7 February 2024 By Alan Straton

During a conversation around the upcoming National Elections with a fellow scribe earlier this week he pointed out a further reason why people are very reluctant to NOT vote for the ruling party. We are all aware that the National Party were extremely good at ensuring that they reserved all government jobs for supporters (by definition all white and mostly male). We are aware of the culture of patronage that was created by the National Party - directed towards their voters - mostly white … [Read more...] about Our Country is in Massive Poofy Kakka Wee Wee

Elections, Erections and Pithy Predictions

2 February 2024 By Alan Straton

2024 is, like every other National Election year, being touted by anyone with an iron in the fire as a 'watershed' election, as our '1994 moment on repeat' and as 'the year the ANC gets a hiding'. Such is the excitement in the Red camp that they are advertising the upcoming ballot as an 'erection', the Blue guys and their allies are predicting a coalition government at the very least. The 'former freedom fighters' have thrown a spanner in the works by emerging as a very credible threat - … [Read more...] about Elections, Erections and Pithy Predictions

Dronkie and Dronker

29 January 2024 By Alan Straton

Alcohol Free Wine

One would think that upon hearing that two former friends of mine are reffered to as 'Dronkie and Dronker' in their close circle that I would be happy. BUT, I have had the chance to examine just how I felt about these two people who were a bit of a 'problem' in my life. AND, surpisingly I did not have any feelings of glee or smugness only sadness that these two have slid into a dark place that very negatively affects their health and standing in the community. Maybe it is a function of … [Read more...] about Dronkie and Dronker

Take Care of the Cents – Some Amateur Share Investment Advice

3 January 2024 By Alan Straton

JSE Share Prices

It has taken me 5 years to 'wake up' and start using my Share Investment account on Easy Equities. Also this is a message for Standard Bank to take note - THIS is how the 'smaller' players are nipping at your heels. I have a share portfolio with Standard Bank and love it as it is NOT a monthly charge. The only drawback is that you can only invest in whole shares whilst Easy Equities allows you to invest in PART shares - almost like a lay-buy system of old. Added to the above Capitec … [Read more...] about Take Care of the Cents – Some Amateur Share Investment Advice

What about Israel and Palestine Google?

24 November 2023 By Alan Straton

In my Google Adsense Dashboard there has been a highlighted notice up since the start of the Russia Ukraine war that reads; "Due to the war in Ukraine, we will pause monetisation of content that exploits, dismisses or condones the war." BUT there is no such notice concerning the Israel Palestine conflict. Wouldn't you love to know why? Gaza Palestine Israel Conflict – This statement beggars belief

13 November 2023 By Alan Straton

Let's be honest here - the conflict is older than the dinosaurs and very few people see a negotiated peaceful resolution in our lifetime. Frankly - the powers that be should lock both sides in a room with a bottle of water each, no food and no bathroom breaks UNTIL they can come up with a solution together. Until that happens all we will have is escalating conflict spilling over into countries thousands of kilometers away from the source. One the more ridiculous utterances that I had … [Read more...] about Gaza Palestine Israel Conflict – This statement beggars belief
