Bring the Sunrisers (and ALL Local Champion Teams) Home

11 February 2024 By Alan Straton

The Sunrisers Eastern Cape T20 cricket team have now won the Betway SA20 Tournament TWICE IN A ROW. The Sunrisers are Gqeberha’s local team with St Georges Park as their home stadium. Both finals were played in cities outside of Gqeberha. As defending champions, at the very least, we should have seen a 2024 final in St Georges Park and not in Cape Town.

If you are sick and tired of seeing Cape Town get all the top notch, top flight sporting and other events. If you are sick and tired and seeing Gqeberha’s home grown talent and home grown teams ply their trade in Cape Town to their benefit and our detriment then please vote and comment here:

Should Gqeberha's Champions Play at Home?(Required)
Gqeberha has the stadiums, the players, the fans and we continue to see our premium teams play their championship games OUTSIDE of the Metro. Please tell us why we should host our OWN Champions at HOME!

Gqeberha has the stadiums, the talent, the teams and, more importantly, the rabid fans to support top flight events here in our HOME GROUND. We are sick and tired of seeing other cities getting to host events (and players and enetrtainers and business people) that we were instrumental in getting off the ground.

As citizens of this metro we should be putting our collective foot down and saying; “If we are the champions then WE DECIDE just where the tournaments that we take part in take place – as in Gqeberha and nowhere else.

SOMEONE needs to stick up for our City as it seems as though our City Fathers/Mothers/Fuckers have absolutely no interest whatsoever in supporting and batting for our home teams. We need those tourist Rands, Rupees, Dollars, Euros, Dollars And Pounds.

Passionate about Port Elizabeth and definitely NOT packing for Perth. Alan's ethos is epitomised in the words of Nelson Mandela; "I have fought against white domination and I have fought against black domination. I have cherished the idea of a democratic and free society. If need be, it is an ideal for which I am prepared to die." See more articles by Alan.
