Mampuru Mampuru – When Something Smells Off it Probably is!

20 February 2025 By Alan Straton

This afternoon I saw the image you see below on Group Sex for Amoebas - FACEBOOK. Something about it just looked off so I did what any NON SOCIAL MEDIA Journalist would do - I did a quick little bit of desktop sleuthing and found .... I searched for Luke Smith on X and came up blank I searched for Mampuru Mampuru on X and came up blank I then searched on Google for an EXACT MATCH of this section; "We need to unite as black people, there are lessthan 5 millions white in South Africa … [Read more...] about Mampuru Mampuru – When Something Smells Off it Probably is!

From Twitter to Bluesky

19 February 2025 By Alan Straton

The adage; "Chaos represents opportunity" probably holds true here. In many users of X's case, though it is probably more of an ElonFatigue situation than anything else. Open your timeline or notifications page on X and you are guaranteed to see many posts by Elon Musk - EVEN if you do not follow the account. In the old days this type of manipulation of the medium by an owner of the business would have been put down as unsocial or crass. In some ways I can feel just how it must feel to be a … [Read more...] about From Twitter to Bluesky

How About a Volkswagen Boerewors?

31 January 2025 By Alan Straton

Confession - it was only through a mention in the Daily Maverick newsletter that I discovered THIS: Volkswagen currywurst is a brand of sausage made by the German car manufacturer Volkswagen since 1973 at the Wolfsburg Volkswagen Plant - and sold in restaurants in its six German factories as well as in supermarkets and at football stadiums - and given to Volkswagen customers. The sausage is branded as a Volkswagen Originalteil "Volkswagen Original Part" under part number 199 398 500 A. The … [Read more...] about How About a Volkswagen Boerewors?

Dear Weslander – Your Assumptions Around Corrupt Officials Are CORRECT

30 January 2025 By Alan Straton

The Weslander news publication in Vredenburg, Western Cape recently highlighted corrupt officials in the municipal building control departments. Today’s Weslander front page confirms what many in the industry have long suspected - municipal corruption in building control is alive and well in the West Coast. This is not an isolated incident. SACAP (South African Council for the Architectural Profession) has also raised concerns this year, highlighting that municipal officials may not engage in … [Read more...] about Dear Weslander – Your Assumptions Around Corrupt Officials Are CORRECT

Was Adolf Hitler a Vegetarian?

12 January 2025 By Alan Straton

'Holiday' reading, for me, is a chance to dip into those guilty pleasure books that you know you will be looked down upon as being kinda 'low brow' for your choices.... True confession time then - these 'holidays' I consumed not one, not two, but THREE Wilbur Smith (9 January 1933 to 13 November 2021) books. Side Note: Wilbur Smith attended Rhodes University in Grahamstown and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce Degree in 1954. Following graduation, he joined the Goodyear Tires and … [Read more...] about Was Adolf Hitler a Vegetarian?

Nice One Aubrey Sacks, Sorry For You Plumblink Newton Park

7 January 2025 By Alan Straton

Apologies Plumblink BUT the following needs to be said: Recently our plumber bought a Kwikot Geyser Element from your Newton Park branch for cash. The element turned out to be faulty. Your representative said that he could not exchange the element as they had to wait for Kwikot to open after the festive season and that even then it would be a wait of a couple of days before the Kwikot representative could determine if it was a factory fault or not and replace the element. Voice Note … [Read more...] about Nice One Aubrey Sacks, Sorry For You Plumblink Newton Park

Gqeberha New Years Day – Can We do Sh!t Different in 2025?

2 January 2025 By Alan Straton

To one an all that braved the Gqeberha beachfront on New Years Day we have a T-Shirt just for you; "Happy Survivor" Our '10 minute town' was put severely to the test yesterday as thousands upon thousands flocked to the sea. Rest assured the few incidents that took place will be held up by all the keyboard warriors as indicative of how 'THEY' act and the many incidents of kindness and good behaviour will be conveniently forgotten. We left home at 4:30 pm on 1 January to travel down to … [Read more...] about Gqeberha New Years Day – Can We do Sh!t Different in 2025?

MyPE Has a Dream for our Local Experts

8 December 2024 By Alan Straton

Take a leap of faith fellow Gqeberha experts and list your expertise here: MyPR #JournoRequest. Within the 'fake it until you make it' mantra there is a kernel of truth in that once you 'make it' you will be acknowledged as a 'mover and a shaker' and the acclaim will follow. BUT - this article is NOT aimed at those who want to 'fake it until you make it' but rather at those who are already acknowledged experts in their field. So, How Do You Become Acknowledged Widely as an Expert? Simple … [Read more...] about MyPE Has a Dream for our Local Experts

First 6 Of 20 New Speed Cameras Deployed in R50 Million Project

5 December 2024 By Alan Straton

Editor: At R2.5 Million each these speed cameras better be able to run after, catch, detain and collect money on the spot from every offender! I am having a real problem justifying the R2.5 Million per camera for the project so went onto online mega market AilBaba.com to see if I could find a fixed traffic speed camera for sale. The highest value ones were these: Brand New Signalways Fixed speed measurement enforcement system Traffic speed detector cctv camera Speed enforcement … [Read more...] about First 6 Of 20 New Speed Cameras Deployed in R50 Million Project

Why ONLY Ward 60? Why ONLY Spaza Shops? What About …?

19 November 2024 By Alan Straton

With reference to this article published on behalf of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality - https://mype.co.za/spaza-shops-face-21-day-countdown/ - in which Spaza shops are being targeted for compliance in Ward 60 many questions arise. So, don't judge before you know. One question has been asked by MyPE of the Municipality; "Why is Ward 60 is being 'targeted' or used as an 'example'? Is the non-compliance higher or is there some other reason?" The NMBM answer was as follows; "The Metro is … [Read more...] about Why ONLY Ward 60? Why ONLY Spaza Shops? What About …?

The Classic Zuma Move is Still Alive

16 October 2024 By Alan Straton

With reference to the upcoming "Taking Legislatre to the people" programme/event/talk show/propaganda taking place at the Ernest Swanepoel Hall in Despatch under the theme, "Accelerating service delivery through accountability" from 22 to 24 October 2024. I have seen one ward offering residents lunch and transport to the event. Okay it is only for 10 warm bodies but..... I find it disconcerting that we have to offer people lunch and transport to attend these government events and cannot … [Read more...] about The Classic Zuma Move is Still Alive

Is the USA’s Democratic Party Trying to Bankrupt You and I?

14 October 2024 By Port Elizabethan

Newspapers

The sheer volume of ‘spam’ emails from the Democratic Party that have ‘mysteriously’ made their way into my Gmail inbox refers.Even if I wanted to I do not qualify to vote in the upcoming US elections and, if the Democratic Party cleans up their email list they will save a lot of money (some estimates are that they will save between $100 and $800 per 1000 emails removed from their mega list. I tried to gauge just how many e-mails are being sent by the Democratic Party and my assumptions are … [Read more...] about Is the USA’s Democratic Party Trying to Bankrupt You and I?

Tourism: When is Enough Enough?

4 October 2024 By Alan Straton

Algoa Bay Killer Whale

The recent protest action by the One Voice group refers and I only have one question; "Are we not flogging a dead horse?" Private Tourists come here and stay one night only as they are en route to somewhere else - Addo, Garden Route, Game Farms. The only tourists that stay any length of time here are business, sport and cultural event tourists. Over the last couple of decades our City has decimated most of our iconic tourist attractions. The Red Location Museum, Bayworld, our Southern … [Read more...] about Tourism: When is Enough Enough?

Dear GQ Business – Follow the Governments Lead With This Humdinger of an Excuse

2 October 2024 By Alan Straton

The recent petrol price adjustments of 2 October 2024 refer. In June 2024 The Port of Port Elizabeth (PE) fuel delivery berth was temporarily closed due to an incident that occurred at the Port.
