The Perfect Charter Yacht

Create 20 'parking spaces' and turn over at least R12 Million a month The greatest iconic Marina, in Africa's Southernmost City Whilst our South African Government and Municipalities struggle to find time and money to comprehensively fix just a pothole... in more 'developed' parts of the world people struggle with the major challenge to develop the Perfect Charter Yacht and find a marina to berth in. If you are a resident of Gqeberha in South Africa then dream along just a bit with me … [Read more...] about Perfect Charter Yacht, Potholes, North End Lake Marina

Dear Siya – Renaming Cape Road in your Honour is Not on

27 September 2024 By Alan Straton

Alan Straton and Siya Kolisi

Let's get one thing straight Siya (whom I am not alone in thinking the world of) grew up in Gqeberha, went to school at Grey High School, captained the first rugby team and then.... Didn't play for Eastern Province Didn't play for the Southern Kings Moved to Cape Town Became the Springbok Captain of arguably the best performing SA team ever. The above is what he is known most for. He has never returned to stay or play in Gqeberha Granted, through the Kolisi Foundation, … [Read more...] about Dear Siya – Renaming Cape Road in your Honour is Not on

Why Happy Valley is a No Go Area

25 September 2024 By Alan Straton

From Ghost on the Coast to 'Shithole' of South Africa. It was with a sense of shame and foreboding that I watched Johannesburg resident Dr Ivor Blumenthal speak about a recent trip to 'Port Elizabeth' when he and a friend were mugged. Not very observant of you Ivor - we are now known as Gqeberha and have been for a number of years now. His TikTok video below highlights the inadequacies of our SAPS and the economics of crime. He advises all to 'steer clear of GQ'. Ivor says that it starts … [Read more...] about Why Happy Valley is a No Go Area

So We Failed and Failed and Failed – Time to Fight Back

24 September 2024 By Alan Straton

Failure has many unintended consequences, the worst of which would be to see our NMB Stadium in a pile of useless rubble due to our failure. We failed at keeping the Southern Kings alive We failed at Eastern Province Rugby We failed at keeping Rugby Sevens in Gqeberha We failed at Chippa United We failed at getting a Springbok Test We failed at attracting top flight football We failed at cleaning the North End Lake We failed at attracting mega artists to Gqeberha We … [Read more...] about So We Failed and Failed and Failed – Time to Fight Back

WTF is This?

5 September 2024 By Alan Straton

This past weekend we went on a little bundu bash and sighted what I term 'GQ Stonehenge'. From the gravel road one can see huge rocks going around in a sortof, kinda circle - it must have taken a mammoth effort to place them on the perimeter. I have always looked at this 'installation' and thought to myself that some mysteries are just great to leave unsolved.... Until now. So I popped onto 'poor mans drone' - Google Maps - to get a birds eye view of these giant rocks and can now see … [Read more...] about WTF is This?

The Best and Worse Case Projections to Full Resumption of Power to Summerstrand, Walmer etc.

24 August 2024 By Alan Straton

The mitigation measures put in place by the Municipality to restore power to the areas affected by the massive Power Outage when 4 Pylons transporting 132KV of electricity to Gqeberha fell over in high winds on Friday 23 August 2023 will see the following scenarios play out - all weather and snag dependent: Power has been restored to the Dawid Stuurman Airport - vital in order to allow Gary to catch his connecting flight to China. There are teams on the ground already and Eskom's help has … [Read more...] about The Best and Worse Case Projections to Full Resumption of Power to Summerstrand, Walmer etc.

Dear SANRAL, Act NOW on the N2 Before we Have Another Disaster of Epic Proportions

24 August 2024 By Alan Straton

The current state of the section of the N2 between the New Brighton beach turnoff and Smelly Creek is a bigger disaster about to happen. In fact I now choose an alternative route whenever possible. Before you read on let me first explain that I am not a civil engineer and that these concerns are those of someone noticing the steady decline of infrastructure all around over many years - tempered with comments from engineers who know what they are doing but are fearful of 'going public' lest … [Read more...] about Dear SANRAL, Act NOW on the N2 Before we Have Another Disaster of Epic Proportions

Brace yourselves for recriminations, unhappiness and tough times. Although this could be good news for the local Solar Power industry that lost it's greatest salesman  in the world: Loadshedding. Vote in Our #EndPunitiveWaterTariffsNow Poll

5 August 2024 By Alan Straton

UPDATE: On 12 December 2024 the NMB ended the punitive tariffs - thank you one and all for voting and applying pressure. It would seem that  requests for the Municipality to provide a definite answer as to exactly who is responsible for ending the punitive water tariffs and, MORE IMPORTANTLY, on what basis, has fallen into the cracks of obfuscation. Apparently the municipality says it needs permission from the National Department of Water and Sanitation to reduce tariffs, but the department … [Read more...] about Vote in Our #EndPunitiveWaterTariffsNow Poll

Many will know that we run our various sites on auto-pilot and on a shoestring - it is the Scottish blood coming out! Anyway J9 alerted us to the fact that our articles on MyPE that are auto posted to Facebook are being 'blessed' with the incorrect URL's rendering them pretty useless. So this post is a test to see: If J9 is actually reading this and has successfully followed the Facebook link OR If more head scratching and swearing will lie ahead for me this day! Of course what … [Read more...] about Just for You J9

Dear Gary, Please Define Exactly When our ‘Former Glory’ Moment was

16 July 2024 By Alan Straton

Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor Gary van Niekerk was quoted recently as saying; "It is now time for all of us, the officials, unions, councillors, stakeholders like the business sector and most importantly the residents to work together and bring this Metro to its former glory." I have a number of questions around this: At which particular moment or period in time can Nelson Mandela Bay point to as a 'glorious time'? What exactly is meant by the term 'former glory' in this … [Read more...] about Dear Gary, Please Define Exactly When our ‘Former Glory’ Moment was
