Why Are South Africans so Arrogant?

13 July 2024 By Alan Straton

With reference to our doing business in Africa - on three occasions this week I heard this sentiment expressed; "When we deal with other African countries we need to dial down the arrogance!" The first speaker was Dave Coffey, speaking at the Exporters EC AGM on Thursday evening. Coffey is CEO of AAAM - African Association of Automotive Manufacturers. Coffey said that South Africans need to be less 'arrogant' when dealing with business from other African countries. He highlighted just how … [Read more...] about Why Are South Africans so Arrogant?

Ban THESE Pronouns From South African Language

7 July 2024 By Alan Straton

Despite our much lauded transition into the 'Rainbow Nation' South Africa remains divided dangerously along racial lines. Since 1994 a large (hopefully it just appears large as that segment is the most strident in the media!) portion of our population remains rooted in ethnic and racial politics. The only way that we have moved on in the last 30 years is in our use of trigger words to describe other people of colour. Let me take you back to the National Socialist German Workers' Party … [Read more...] about Ban THESE Pronouns From South African Language

Say No To Political Regalia NMBMM

25 June 2024 By Alan Straton

Cllr Zanele Sikawuti

The image below refers. The time has come to issue our Councillors, and municipal people in the public eye, with a standard Nelson Mandela Bay uniform. This image was circulated via official Nelson Mandela Bay Municipal media channels. Just looking at the image of Cllr Zanele Sikawuti one can see just which political party she represents. By doing so she is creating a division in the Ward and the City which pays her 'hard earned' salary and whose coffers are filled by people from … [Read more...] about Say No To Political Regalia NMBMM

At what dam levels will the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality declare punitive tariffs?

21 June 2024 By Alan Straton

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality does not explicitly state at what dam levels it will declare punitive tariffs. Punitive water tariffs were introduced due to the impact of drought on water consumption and revenue collection. The municipality has implemented a tariff structure that progressively charges higher levels of water consumption at a higher rate to manage the effects of drought. Based on the above then we can only conclude that the consumers of water within Nelson Mandela Bay have … [Read more...] about At what dam levels will the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality declare punitive tariffs?

Dear Renaldo Gouws, This is What Old White Men Think

20 June 2024 By Alan Straton

Or maybe JUST this Old White former National Serviceman! I watched your video when you first posted it all those years ago and felt uneasy, very uneasy for you and South Africa. You reminded me of when I used to tell my children to leave their phones at home before going out on the piss for one simple reason; "Alcohol, stupidity and Social Media will destroy you one day!" Now after watching your video again, noting your suspension by the DA and feeling that deep dread for you in the pit … [Read more...] about Dear Renaldo Gouws, This is What Old White Men Think

The GNU Participants Were a Foregone Conclusion – Fuckit I HATE being right!

14 June 2024 By Alan Straton

African National Congress

As I often say to the two young 'nearly teenagers' in my home; "Fuckit, I hate being right!" When the DA started with their talks about a Multi-Party Charter to defeat the ANC and take over as the government of South Africa along with their 'promise' to never work with the ANC, I only had this to say to anyone who would listen: The DA has struggled for 30 years to be the government Whatever they say is NOT cast in stone How would you feel if you were always the bridesmaid and never … [Read more...] about The GNU Participants Were a Foregone Conclusion – Fuckit I HATE being right!

Port Elizabeth Beats Cape Town, Again

9 June 2024 By Alan Straton

Last week we highlighted that the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has the lowest dumpsite rate in the country - beating Cape Town by over R400.00 per tonne. Today we highlight the fact that the Port of Port Elizabeth is ranked higher than the Port of Cape Town. NOT good news for the present Port Manager of Cape Town who was the former manager of the Port of Port Elizabeth. Admittedly the Ports of Port Elizabeth, Coega and Cape Town 'feature' in the bottom 10 of all Port rankings worldwide … [Read more...] about Port Elizabeth Beats Cape Town, Again

NMB Charges R443.00 per Tonne LESS than the City of Cape Town for…

Dump Site Charges

I am often reminded of Mr 'Trolley for Trolley' - former Checkers MD, Clive Weil - whenever people bemoan the high cost of certain service delivery items in Nelson Mandela Bay when compared to, say, the City of Cape Town. This gripe is up there with whenever a new incoming business proudly announces that they will provide many more jobs whilst conveniently forgetting that churn is a real thing and they have not taken into account the number of jobs that will be lost by small business as a … [Read more...] about NMB Charges R443.00 per Tonne LESS than the City of Cape Town for…

Why the ANC Will Benefit for Years to Come by Becoming the Official Opposition

7 June 2024 By Alan Straton

African National Congress

Dear ANC - you may thank me for this suggestion after the 2029 elections. Stay with me as we hash this one out in a series of statements: For 30 years the ANC have had declining support. The ANC have been the main party leading national government since 1994. The ANC have never experienced politics from the point of view of an opposition party in Parliament. It is a given that when two large parties (e.g. the 1994 ANC and NP 'coalition') form a working relationship to govern, that … [Read more...] about Why the ANC Will Benefit for Years to Come by Becoming the Official Opposition

Like Innuendo? A Bit of Balls

7 June 2024 By Alan Straton

Let me first state that my view on the game of Golf is this; "Golf, a game played by people unable to Sail" So the following Golf instructions on choosing the right balls could be funny when applying a dose of sexual innuendo. When it comes to choosing balls, there are a few key points to consider: First, think about your skill level and swing speed: If you are a beginner or have a slower swing speed, you may want to choose a softer ball to help you travel more distance. On the other … [Read more...] about Like Innuendo? A Bit of Balls

Lets Rather Talk About the Opposition and NOT Coalitions

5 June 2024 By Alan Straton

South Africa's 2024 National Elections refer here when we remind you that the very foundation of a good democracy is premised on a strong opposition offering checks and balances to the ruling party. Lets say straight off the bat; "Love them or loather them the DA has offered some sterling opposition to the ruling ANC these past 25 years." And now in the 30th year of our democracy we have a change in guard with no one party gaining te magical 50% plus 1 figure to enable them to form a … [Read more...] about Lets Rather Talk About the Opposition and NOT Coalitions

Is it Okay for a White Person to Accuse Political Parties of Ethnic Identity Politics?

31 May 2024 By Alan Straton

Ethnic Identity Politics refers to the ways in which ethnic groups organize, mobilize, and assert their interests within a larger political framework. In a recent interview the DA's Helen Zille used the term Ethnic Identity Politics freely and on many occasions saying that her party did not identify with Ethnic Identity Politics. Of course with all the social media bias ringing in my ears all I could discern from what Helen was saying was that Ethnic Identity Politics is a 'black thing' and … [Read more...] about Is it Okay for a White Person to Accuse Political Parties of Ethnic Identity Politics?

Coalition Politics – Are we Strong Enough for the Rough Ride Ahead?

31 May 2024 By Alan Straton

Some of my concerns around the next five years of this next exciting chapter in the life of our democracy need airing. Once again South Africa and it's citizens have not disappointed us - early results show that the ANC will lose their majority and that the MK Party may be on track to be significant opposition. Most provinces have voted according to their traditional base and no surprise in KZN as the MK sprinted into the lead. Could the lobby to change the acronymn from KZN to MKZN be … [Read more...] about Coalition Politics – Are we Strong Enough for the Rough Ride Ahead?

Give me your unlicensed, your unroadworthy

16 May 2024 By Alan Straton

A recent article by Groundup - 'The traffic department that hasn’t issued a ticket for years' was the inspiration for the following: Give me your unlicensed, your unroadworthy Your condemned taxis yearning to pollute The wretched old skedonks Send the lawless drivers to me I welcome them to traffic officer free Give me your speeders, your illegal parkers Your huddled guardtjie yearning to drive Ngcobo is their new haven of lawlessness The Original Poem on the Staute of Liberty … [Read more...] about Give me your unlicensed, your unroadworthy
