Power Outage: A Disaster of Epic Proportions for Some

Although this could be good news for the local Solar Power industry that lost it’s greatest salesman  in the world: Loadshedding.

“Do not make hasty decisions and take the first available quote for a solar power battery back-up solution,” said Michael Straton from Straton Solar.

A well researched, specified and installed system that will get you over the next two week outage will take at least two weeks to complete.

Last nights power outage in Walmer, Summerstrand and other areas is estimated to last for another two weeks.

This shattering news was added almost as an afterthought to last night’s media advisory.

Four 132 kV high voltage transmission towers collapsed on the western side of Gqeberha due to aging infrastructure and rust, affecting Summerstrand, EP Command, Forest Hill, Humewood, South End, Arlington, Lovemore Park, Miramar, Pari Park, Providentia, Schoenmakerskop, Walmer, Walmer Location and Walmer Industrial.

Municipal staff commenced with the restoration of supply/rebuilding of the towers, which could take approximately 2 weeks to complete.

Technicians on site indicated that a ‘sustainable’ solution to the tower disaster could take three months.

Work continues on finding a solution to restoring temporary power as soon as possible.

The areas affected are:

  2. EP Command
  3. Forest Hill
  4. Humewood
  5. South End
  6. Arlington
  7. Lovemore Park
  8. Miramar
  9. Pari Park
  10. Providentia
  11. Schoenmakerskop
  12. Walmer
  13. Walmer Location
  14. Walmer Industrial

Power was restored to the Chief Dawid Stuurman Airport around 19h30.on Friday 23 August 2024.
