Gothenburg Delegation to Inspect Red Location Museum

A delegation of 12 people will be arriving in Port Elizabeth from our Twin City in Sweden, Gothenburg, tomorrow, Tuesday 30 October 2018. Delegates will be inspect the closed Red Location Museum on 1 November where they will be addressed by Councillor Captain. The multiple award-winning Red Location Museum will be opening its doors again following a negotiated settlement with the community after the iconic facility was closed for three years due to unhappiness with aspects of the government’s housing rectification programme. In the entire Red Location Precinct, which includes, the Red Location Museum, the Digital Library and Art Gallery, the only building that is operational is the museum. In the 2011/12 financial year R3 million was allocated to operationalise the digital library and art gallery. This sad story came to my attention through Bongiwe Rasi from Block 40 (the immediate surrounding community of the Red Location Museum/Precinct). Bongiwe is one of the participants in the Red Location Arts and Crafts Project. Two months ago Bongiwe's neighbour, Nomonde, gave birth to a baby born with the brain outside the skull and Dora Nginza Hospital apparently sent the mother and baby home without any medical assistance, telling her that the baby was going to die anyway.
