This sad story came to my attention through Bongiwe Rasi from Block 40 (the immediate surrounding community of the Red Location Museum/Precinct). Bongiwe is one of the participants in the Red Location Arts and Crafts Project.
Two months ago Bongiwe’s neighbour, Nomonde, gave birth to a baby born with the brain outside the skull and Dora Nginza Hospital apparently sent the mother and baby home without any medical assistance, telling her that the baby was going to die anyway. The baby is however growing healthily, and so is the baby’s bulging unprotected brain.
Last week and Thursday the mother had a light stroke – and I hear that this situation is too much for her and her husband to cope with. The family now resides in White Location, a short distance away from the Red Location Museum/Precinct.
Urgent advice and assistance is needed for this unfortunate family.

The baby’s name is Anokholo, which means “we believe”.
