Castros continues to flout noise regulations
Dear All, Once again our citizens lives are being disrupted by the totally unacceptable behaviour generated by this liquor outlet, club, or what can only be called "a decadent dive". I must also add that in his wisdom, despite numerous objections, Mr Gumede from the Public Health Department of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, approved extended liquor selling hours with conditions that state: That no noise nuisance be created by the nature of your business. Further that you will … [Read more...] about Castros continues to flout noise regulations

Education/School Closures – Crisis
Dear Sir, A fundamental basic necessity in any community, in fact country, is education. In a developing country such as ours, it is essential that education for the youth be provided. In the Eastern Cape we endure reluctantly a dysfunctional Education Department. One must be aware of the fact that youth in the townships are being denied education due to the fact that the schools in there vicinity are full and cannot accommodate any more pupils. This overflow of rejected youth creates a … [Read more...] about Education/School Closures – Crisis
Threatened Chronic Water Shortage
In light of the fact that a severe drought is forecast for the winter period of 2013 and for the next ten years, I am adamant that water conservation be regarded as a major priority. I suggest that systems be put in place to accumulate storm water and that additional water saving procedures be instituted without delay. An incentive to encourage public participation must be established. I received a seasonal outlook including May to the end of July 2013, where there is no rain forecast over a … [Read more...] about Threatened Chronic Water Shortage

Swimming Pool Debacle
Dear Sir, What an embarrassment for this Metro in light of the fact that here we are hosting a world class swimming gala attended by Olympic champions giving us the opportunity to showcase ourselves. Instead we have become the laughing stock of the swimming world! An opportunity for our own swimmers to qualify for the world championships has literally gone down the drain, a situation where our swimmers were too embarrassed to even wear their Eastern Province tracksuits! On the technical … [Read more...] about Swimming Pool Debacle

Business Crisis in Govan Mbeki Avenue
Dear Sir, It is high time that the Metro addressed the chaotic situation in Govan Mbeki Avenue created by the so called Integrated Public Transport System, that consists of lanes designed to provide Bus Rapid Transport. Meanwhile no bus stations have been built and what's more the buses are in mothballs in the northern areas. The negative effect this is having on businesses in the Avenue cannot be adequately described but just to say that many are closing down due to the lack of … [Read more...] about Business Crisis in Govan Mbeki Avenue
AFCON Host City vs Opening Black Bags for Food
Why does this Metro Council and in particular the Sport, Recreation, Arts and Cultural Services Committee fail to acknowledge the fact that funds are not available for events of this sort, or for that matter, for anything else? Are the ANC not aware of the outrage shown by the poor in the informal settlements in the Metro, emphasizing the lack of basic essential services available to them? The availability of funding for the AFCON 2012/13 TOURNAMENT is questionable to say the least. Where the … [Read more...] about AFCON Host City vs Opening Black Bags for Food
Pupils Rape Horror
Dear Sir Clearly indicated by the long slow inadequate and incompetent reaction by the hospitals and the South African police service to the cry for help by the family and child so dreadfully abused on Friday 28 Oct 2011, it is quite clear that our emergency services have limited resources and are incapable of dealing with extremely serious incidents of this nature. The safety of our children must be of paramount importance. How many of us as parents of daughters can be non responsive in a … [Read more...] about Pupils Rape Horror

Ken, Ken, Ken, Are you at it Again?
The whole protection of the historical, heritage, cultural heart of Port Elizabeth question is one that has made a lot of people a lot of money. It is a known fact that over the years Central and Richmond Hill have been subject to cycles of decline and favour - in my misspent youth Richmond Hill was not quite as trendy as Central but has now overtaken Central as the trendiest spot in town. Let's face it - Central, even after the massive upgrades to Parliament Street still has the reputation … [Read more...] about Ken, Ken, Ken, Are you at it Again?
