Pupils Rape Horror

Clearly indicated by the long slow inadequate and incompetent reaction by the hospitals and the South African police service to the cry for help by the family and child so dreadfully abused on Friday 28 Oct 2011, it is quite clear that our emergency services have limited resources and are incapable of dealing with extremely serious incidents of this nature.

The safety of our children must be of paramount importance. How many of us as parents of daughters can be non responsive in a case such as this. I can but say that in my opinion crime of this kind is a feature of post colonial Africa.

As we all know police presence discourages crime, but this does not exist in our present situation.

I beg parents to think and work together. A lift club in this case, with the buses on strike, would have prevented this incident. Common sense should have prevailed!

The school should also have considered the fact that the students were being forced by circumstances to walk home.

I know its easy to be wise after the event but all I am endeavouring to do is to make people aware of the predicament we face in this day and age, where few if any of us are totally safe but our children’s safety comes first.
