Work is progressing well to restore water supply to Summerstrand, Walmer, Humewood and Humerail after a 525 mm diameter steel water pipe that was damaged by a contractor at the Port Elizabeth International Airport yesterday afternoon. The contractor was busy with the building of retention ponds to negate the effect of flooding on the nearby informal settlements.
Supply to the effected areas is expected to be restored after 8:00 pm tonight. Four water tankers will be deployed in the area. The municipality will fix the pipe and start with the necessary procedure to recoup damages from the relevant contractor. No time frame for the restoration of supply is available at this stage.
Residents can contact the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s 24 hour service delivery centre at 0800 20 50 50 if they would like to find out where the tankers are.

Water tankers can be found at Spar Main Rd Walmer, Pick ‘n Pay (6th Avenue) and at Spar First Avenue (I am not sure about last one). Off to get my 2nd 10 litres of water just in case. That goodness for a pool that can assist with the necessary flushing.
