The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality, represented by various directorates, hosted a community meeting in Kliprand today. Attendees included the Member of the Mayoral Committee for Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Bongekile Mankahla, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Human Settlements, Cllr. Thembinkosi Mafana, Member of the Mayoral Committee for Elecricity and Energy Cllr Zanele Mqokoyi , Acting Executive Director Owethu Pantshwa,and Acting Executive Director for Electricity and Energy, Mr. Tholi Biyela, Acting Executive Director Mr. Shadrick Sibiya, the Metro Police, South African Police Services, and Ward 33 Councillor Cllr. Mzwandile Sidina.
The meeting was convened following a protest earlier in the day. Community members raised several concerns, including the lack of housing, electricity, proper roads, parking, and streetlights. They also highlighted issues with illegal dumping, blocked drains, and inadequate sanitation facilities.
In response, NMBM senior officials addressed these concerns directly. A truck was dispatched to repair the streetlights, and the community was informed about the pending layout plan approval. Additionally, it was confirmed that the construction of 146 houses in the area will be prioritized. The Municipality remains committed to resolving these challenges and improving living conditions in Kliprand.
