The Most Viewed Article on MyPE this Year

23 May 2011 By Alan Straton

The article occupying the hallowed spot of most read this year took just two days to accomplish that feat and, in the process, brought MyPE to a grinding halt, TWICE.

It just goes to show that Port Elizabethans closely watched the 18 May local elections and that it WAS a very close race.

MOST pleasing to us at MyPE is that the voting poll that we started on Tuesday 17 May and ended on Thursday 19 May showed that MyPE readers are equally represented across ALL political parties as the final poll results almost exactly mirrored the actual election results. It was the only site I could find that gave the PE results and who the elected councilors are straight away without hanging and waiting.

Thanks Firefly – there is something to be said for serving your niche well (and a bit of hard work)!

voted 110 times for the ANC to get some reaction from the readers, maar nee
jong hulle was almal gevrek …. believe me ANC voters do not read MyPe ….

Thanks for that WD40, BUT, I doubt your figure of 110 votes in the poll for the following reasons:

      1. The poll was published at 7:30 am on 17 May and expired at 5:00 pm on 19 May giving 57.5 hours for people to vote.
      2. For the first 5 hours I restricted voting by IP and Cookie.
      3. Then I got complaints that people couldn’t vote and removed the IP restriction and set the Cookie to expire every hour.
      4. Based on the above the most you could have voted (without sleeping) is 52 times.

Of course (he says allowing the slippery one to save face) you could have deleted the poll specific cookie 110 times but somehow I don’t see anyone being that enthusiastic.

As it stands – I did see the ANC figures increase quite quickly after I notified some of my ANC chums of the poll (yes, those chums do read AND contribute to MyPE).

… Alan, surely you know that cookie settings can be cancelled within seconds (by deleting your history) …. believe me I voted 110 times within +/- 40 minutes …. Sorry about that … will not do it again
