The Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has counted 100% of votes in the 2014 General Elections. The figures are preliminary and the official number will be released by the IEC at its national Results Operations Centre (ROC) in Pretoria at 6pm on Saturday. The ANC received an overwhelming majority of the ballots with 62.16 percent of the vote, down from the 2009 total of 65.9 percent. The Death of Our Broad Based Democracy?
Having a look at the voting percentages from the local elections in 2000, 2006 and 2011 one can see that only five Port Elizabeth (Nelson Mandela Bay) political parties have consistently won a seat on council in all three elections.
