Sustainable water supply for Nelson Mandela Bay Metro and surrounding area

12 August 2013 By Ward1

The Department of Water Affairs together with the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro (NMBM) is intensifying efforts to improve water security in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro area amid concerns over the significant increase in water use since the drought of 2009-2011 was broken. Water use is currently between 296 and 300 megalitres per day. This has resulted in dam levels dropping by 1.5% per week. This was among the concerns raised at the biannual meeting of the Algoa Reconciliation Strategy Steering … [Read more...] about Sustainable water supply for Nelson Mandela Bay Metro and surrounding area

Municipality Approves IDP And Budget

8 June 2013 By NMB Communications

(Editor: These rates and services increases must be seen against a background of a national inflation rate of 5.9% and, personally, I say that these increases represent profit taking and are a sad indictment of an inefficient institution. If you think I am right or wrong then let me know in the comments or submit a letter.) The Council of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality today approved its 2013/14 Integrated Development Plan (IDP) (12th Edition) and 2013/14 – 2015/16 Budget. The total … [Read more...] about Municipality Approves IDP And Budget

New Brighton Water

There is still no water in the area in which I live (New Brighton Railway Flats) and the smelly situation at the Red Location Museum continues! I hope this situation will be resolved today. The Municipality helpline lied to me when I phoned them yesterday morning - there was a strike and workers were locked in their offices until late afternoon! See my facebook conversation insert below - where the real reason is stated for our lack of water. 23 January 2013 By Port Elizabethan

The Democratic Alliance councillors in both Kouga and the NMBM are fully aware of the acknowledgement of debt signed by the Kouga chief financial officer (CFO) in September 2011 when Kouga agreed to pay off R500,000 per month to cover the debt plus the amount for the current consumption. At the time, the DA in the NMBM calculated that it could at the water usage rate of Kouga at the time, take more than 4 years to pay off the debt and get the current balance back on the 30 day system as … [Read more...] about Kouga Owes NMBM Millions for Water

Please Continue to Save Water

3 November 2012 By Ward1

Dear Residents There have been some fairly good rainfalls over the last weeks. However, communities tend to forget the crucial value of water when it is freely available and the daily consumption is slowly creeping up. The average daily consumption for the last four months (in megalitres): May - 246 June - 250 July - 235 October - 264 It certainly appears that most people have lost the urgency to save rainwater. Residents are encouraged to save at least 10 - 15% on their … [Read more...] about Please Continue to Save Water
