2 November 2015 By Port Elizabethan

Despatch Water Leaks

Dear MyPE The NMB municipality is losing between R480-million and R1,2-billion a year to water leaks; a massive loss to the people of this Metro at the hands of an uncaring local government. We are losing 42,3% of our water because this Metro has not handled a crisis that has been a long time coming, as it has let water pipes and water infrastructure go to rack and ruin. Parliamentary replies reveal that in the 2013/2014 municipal cycle, 45 billion litres of NMB drinking water were … [Read more...] about 45 billion litres of drinking water lost as NMB’s water infrastructure collapses

Inadequate water maintenance budgets see millions flushed down the drain

2 September 2015 By Port Elizabethan

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE The massive wastage of water in the Eastern Cape's three biggest municipalities is going to continue to disrupt frustrated resident's lives unless water infrastructure is maintained and installed. The staggering rate of water loss in Nelson Mandela Bay is 36%, 33% in BCM and 25% in KSD, according to a reply to a written question I asked the MEC for Cooperative Governance, Fikile Xasa. People are angry with the wastage, the leaking pipes, the poor quality of water and the lack of … [Read more...] about Inadequate water maintenance budgets see millions flushed down the drain

Municipal Electricity Purchases Down

30 June 2015 By Alan Straton

Purchases of electricity by municipalities have decreased by 4.4% between the quarters ended December 2014 and March 2015, Statistics South Africa (Stats SA) said on Tuesday. Outrage on imposition of official water restrictions

27 March 2015 By Port Elizabethan

Letters to the Editor

Dear MyPE The Democratic Alliance (DA) is outraged to learn of the gazetting of water restrictions in Nelson Mandela Bay Metro (NMBM) by the Department of Water Affairs yesterday. The restrictions are effective as of 1 March 2015. The cutting of all water to our metro by fifteen percent sets us on course for a water crisis. This is a crisis that could have been avoided were it not for the empty promises of the presidency to fund the completion of the Nooitgedacht Low Level water … [Read more...] about Outrage on imposition of official water restrictions

Dams not filling says Municipality

1 October 2014 By NMB Communications

Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality Standing Committee Chairperson for Infrastructure, Engineering, Electricity and Energy Andile Mfunda has urged residents to conserve water consumption as dam levels are only expected to increase slightly due to a lack of persistent rain in the catchment areas.
