Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality would like to inform residents that the challenges of water shortages and low pressure have been overcome. Due to the latest stability and consistency in electricity distribution going into our treatment works and pump stations, we have managed to refill our reservoirs. We would also like to assure residents that the water quality coming out of their drinking taps is of the right quality and safe for drinking. The Municipality would like to apologise for any inconvenience caused by the water distribution challenges we have been experiencing over the past two days. We also like to thank residents of the Metro for their cooperation and understanding during this period. We want to assure residents that the Municipality, through is short, medium and long-term plans, is committed to providing a sustainable water supply that is reliable and safe for drinking, as well as domestic and industrial use.
The Municipality, however, calls on all residents to use water and electricity sparingly, as the Nelson Mandela Bay area is experiencing a shortage of rainfall, which has led to our dam levels decreasing to about 70%. We want to confirm that we are considering water restrictions, depending on water consumption and rainfall. We call on the residents of the Metro, the media and business to work with us in decreasing our water consumption by at least 10 percent.
Editor: At the risk of acting true to form, the cynic in me would like to add THREE words to the tile of this notice; “UNTIL NEXT TIME!”
