Dear MyPE The DA has requested an investigation by Eastern Cape Legislature Speaker Noxolo Kiviet into answers to questions for oral reply presented to the House by Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Fikile Xasa relating to the demolition of houses in the Ingquza Hill Municipality in 2016. The reply from the MEC does not reflect the truth. He must go and see for himself the tragedy that befell the 130 families of New Rest outside Lusikisiki who were forcibly removed and … [Read more...] about COGTA MEC Must Fix the Lies

Amatola Water Board chairperson Nokulunga Mnqetha must go
Dear MyPE The residents of the Amathole District Municipality (ADM) continue to struggle because of the ongoing drought. Despite promises by the Premier and confirmation from the MEC for Finance that a Water Services Infrastructure Grant of R119-million had been transferred to ADM in full, there is still no evidence of relief measures being implemented. There has been no drilling for additional boreholes or attempts to de-silt dams. Those responsible for ensuring the utilization of the … [Read more...] about Amatola Water Board chairperson Nokulunga Mnqetha must go
Butterworth Residents Experience Empty Promise of R1 Billion to Drink Water
Dear MyPE Residents of Butterworth continue to face a daily struggle for water, despite promises by Eastern Cape Premier Phumulo Masualle in his State of the Province Address (Sopa) in February of a budget allocation of R1-billion for the province for drought mitigation – which included the drilling of additional boreholes and desilting of dams. The area’s Gcuwa- and Xilinxa Dams are in desperate need of desilting. Silt-levels in both dams are estimated to be at 40%, which means that any … [Read more...] about Butterworth Residents Experience Empty Promise of R1 Billion to Drink Water

Cogta MEC must intervene in Mnquma crisis
Dear MyPE It is disgusting to see the Mnquma Municipality (Butterworth, Ngqamakhwe and Centane) disrupted less than a month after the Local Government Elections. The on-going infighting in Mnquma is a prime example of what happens as a result of cadre deployment, both amongst politicians and administrators. The people of this province sent a strong message for change in the elections. We hope that voters have learnt their lesson this time around. They were given an opportunity to … [Read more...] about Cogta MEC must intervene in Mnquma crisis
Torching of OR Tambo District schools condemned
Dear MyPE The DA condemns the torching of three schools in the OR Tambo District this week. We call for calm before all three situations escalate. We sympathise with protesting learners in their pursuit to have the school scrap one of its policies that sees parents paying R250 monthly for School Governing Body (SGB) members. The learners are also protesting for the ability to participate in all sporting activities in the district and at other levels. We however do not believe that … [Read more...] about Torching of OR Tambo District schools condemned
Racist MEC Sihlwayi reported to Ethics Committee
Dear MyPE I have reported MEC Nancy Sihlwayi to the Eastern Cape Legislature Ethics Committee for racism and human rights violations. The racism of ANC MEC Sihlwayi, in segregating youth on the basis of race, has exposed the ANC as an organisation that is not working for a non-racial future for South Africa. Sihlwayi's instruction to exclude white children from a government youth event is nothing but pure racism. There is no place for racial segregation twenty-one years into our … [Read more...] about Racist MEC Sihlwayi reported to Ethics Committee
ANC must immediately suspend racist MEC Sihlwayi
Dear MyPE The ANC must immediately suspend its Eastern Cape MEC for Social Development, Nancy Sihlwayi, for her racism and human right's violations in segregating youth on the basis of race. Sihlwayi's instruction to exclude white children from a government youth event is nothing but pure racism, which the ANC must immediately take action against. If the ANC does not act against Sihlwayi, it will clearly expose itself as a home of racists. Suspension of Sihlwayi must be immediate to … [Read more...] about ANC must immediately suspend racist MEC Sihlwayi
Racist MEC Sihlwayi exposes ANC’s racial nationalism
Dear MyPE The racism of ANC MEC Nancy Sihlwayi, in segregating youth on the basis of race, exposes the ANC as an organisation that is not working for a non-racial future for South Africa. Sihlwayi's instruction to exclude white children from a government youth event is nothing but pure racism. As MEC for Social Development, Sihlwayi has shown that given the chance, the ANC will decide which races can and cannot access opportunities. This is a divisive and separatist tactic that has no … [Read more...] about Racist MEC Sihlwayi exposes ANC’s racial nationalism
Rural Women deserve equal opportunities
This speech was delivered by Veliswa Mvenya MPL, in the National Council of Provinces (NCOP) in Cape Town on Tuesday during the debate on International Day of Rural Women. Honourable Chairperson, Honourable Members, Honourable Ministers present and members of the public. It gives me great pleasure to be given an opportunity to speak on behalf of my women from my home. I was born and bred in the deep rural area of Ngqamakhwe in the Eastern Cape. I was a rural girl and now I am a rural … [Read more...] about Rural Women deserve equal opportunities
Abuse of state funds on women’s day event
Dear MyPE The desperation of the ANC to win ward 30 in Nelson Mandela Bay Metro is getting out of hand. Yesterday the ANC held a women’s day event in Uitenhage paid for by government. This event is supposed to be a multi-party event but no transport has been allocated to opposition parties. We are calling on the premier to protect government funds for the poor as this province is lagging behind in service delivery whilst money is spent on ANC grand standing programmes. It was … [Read more...] about Abuse of state funds on women’s day event
NMBM by-election sparks food parcel shenanigans
Dear MyPE The DA's contestation of by-elections in wards where the ANC traditionally had strong support has placed them on the back foot. Voters are delighted with the DA's efforts to contest by-elections all over the province as they score food parcels from the ANC, who will stop at nothing to counteract the ever-increasing threat of the DA as the new government. Social Development MEC, Nancy Sihlwayi, who has a notorious track record of having little regard for the difference … [Read more...] about NMBM by-election sparks food parcel shenanigans
Social development department pays bursaries for internships, not proper jobs
Dear MyPE A total of 661 graduates of the Eastern Cape Department of Social Development's bursary programme for social workers do not have jobs. This is extremely disappointing considering that the department offers the bursaries to address the shortage of social workers in the province. It is also indicative of poor planning, as the department should make provision for the placement of each group of graduates. In a reply to an oral question I posed to the MEC for Social Development, … [Read more...] about Social development department pays bursaries for internships, not proper jobs
EC NPOs saved from budget cuts
Dear MyPE I am delighted to announce that following vigorous engagements by the DA with the Department of Social Development, budget cuts to Non-Profit Organisations (NPOs) have been amended. The unannounced budget cut severely affected the care of vulnerable groups in welfare centres throughout the province and is not acceptable. In a reply to an oral question in the Bhisho Legislature on Wednesday (subs: 3 June) Social Development MEC Nancy Sihlawi confirmed that unfair budget cuts … [Read more...] about EC NPOs saved from budget cuts
