Dear MyPE
It is disgusting to see the Mnquma Municipality (Butterworth, Ngqamakhwe and Centane) disrupted less than a month after the Local Government Elections. The on-going infighting in Mnquma is a prime example of what happens as a result of cadre deployment, both amongst politicians and administrators.
The people of this province sent a strong message for change in the elections. We hope that voters have learnt their lesson this time around. They were given an opportunity to change the situation in their municipality but chose again to put their trust in the African National Congress.
Nothing has changed and this infighting continues with a situation where the municipal manager, Sindile Tantsi, and the politicians are all equal. A council cannot operate with allegations flying around of the municipal manager confiscating the car keys of the mayor and speaker, of changing the locks to offices and of allowing council meetings to be disrupted.
Personal and political issues cannot hold the citizens of Mnquma to ransom. While the infighting and chaos go on, service delivery to the people continues to fall short.
In a well-run province, the MEC for Cooperative Governance would have intervened long ago. We call on MEC Fikile Xasa to act and stabilise this municipality as a matter of urgency, for sake of the people he is mandated to serve.
If he fails to act, the voters will take revenge in 2019 and vote for the change that has just occurred in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro.
The DA wants a well-run province where service delivery is prioritised.
