On Monday, 28 November 2016, the DA Women’s Network (DAWN) will hold its provincial event to launch this year’s campaign for 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence in Queenstown. DA national spokesperson and member of the Gauteng Legislature, Refiloe Ntseke MPL and DA Eastern Cape Provincial Chairperson Veliswa Mvenya MPL will attend.
The programme will open with a vigil and the release of pink balloons for Petro Nel, one of the founding mothers of DAWN, who died tragically in an aircraft accident in Nepal.
Celeste Barker MPL, Eastern Cape DAWN Chairperson, will launch “Women’s Wednesdays”, an initiative that will give vulnerable women and girls weekly physical and moral support in their communities.
DAWN supports a constitutional democracy and all rights enshrined in our country’s hard-won constitution. We believe that non-violent, peaceful protest has the power to change social norms. We will, therefore, continue to resist, speak, march and picket for freedom, fairness and equality for all women regardless of the circumstances of their birth.
