Kids will have the chance to go wild, under supervision, at the 2011 Absa Kirkwood Wildlife Festival kids zone from July 1 to 3. With raptors, monster snakes, spiders, worms and more on the programme, the Absa Kirkwood Wildsfees is not afraid to take a walk on the wildside! The Walk on the Wildside tent is one of the ways that the festival adheres to its identity as a wildlife festival. The event takes place from 1 to 3 July 2011. For the first time, the tent will host KykNET wildlife presenter, Esther van der Westhuizen, and her selection of local and exotic spiders. "Our display includes tarantulas, baboon … [Read more...] about Take a Walk on the Wildside

The Longhair is Adamant – We are Going to Overnight at the Kirkwood Wildsfees

25 May 2011 By Alan Straton

For the first time last year, the Longhair and I toddled off to the ABSA Kirkwood Wildsfees festival in the wild hinterland of the Eastern Cape. That we were graciously given entrance tickets still didn't stop me from grumbling about the expense of diesel; "Just to see more bloody stalls!" Well we were quite impressed. I wanted to say; "Blown Away" but those who know me will know the near impossibility of that ever happening! So impressed were we with the Kirkwood Wildsfees that the Longhair … [Read more...] about The Longhair is Adamant – We are Going to Overnight at the Kirkwood Wildsfees

Are You Special

18 February 2011 By Alan Straton

There's still limited space for stallholders at the annual Absa Kirkwood Wildsfees - but only if you have "something special" to offer. Demand for the over 300 stalls at the annual Absa Kirkwood Wildsfees is so strong that most of them were booked before Christmas, says festival director Jenni Honsbein. The 2011 festival - the tenth - runs from July 1 to July 3 this year. "Stallholders book from one year to the next, because they do so well and they love the festival atmosphere," she … [Read more...] about Are You Special

The Festival You Don’t Want to Miss

3 February 2011 By Alan Straton

Last year, and for the first time ever, the Longhair and I toddled off to the Absa Kirkwood Wildsfees on Sunday, the final day of the festival. We were suitably impressed with the festival - well laid out, excellent security, clean, great entertainment, superb stores, friendly people and superb catering. We also attracted quite a bit of attention with young girls following me around the festival grounds and asking to pose for photographs with me, although the cries of; "Oom, oom, wag … [Read more...] about The Festival You Don’t Want to Miss
