There’s still limited space for stallholders at the annual Absa Kirkwood Wildsfees – but only if you have “something special” to offer.
Demand for the over 300 stalls at the annual Absa Kirkwood Wildsfees is so strong that most of them were booked before Christmas, says festival director Jenni Honsbein.
The 2011 festival – the tenth – runs from July 1 to July 3 this year.
“Stallholders book from one year to the next, because they do so well and they love the festival atmosphere,” she says. In 2010, the festival attracted over 38 000 visitors. (The Longhair and I went specially up on the last day to ensure that the number was NOT 37 998!))
Because of the demand, the festival management is able to select only the best that is on offer – “which is part of what makes the Absa Kirkwood Wildsfees different. No one refers to our stalls as a ‘flea market,’ it is a shopping expedition where treasures are discovered, and unusual food and wine can be savoured,” she says.
Spaces are kept in reserve for that elusive “something special that adds value to the festival,” says Honsbein.
Anyone who believes they have what it takes to be one of the select stallholders to take up the last few stands can contact the festival office on 042 230006.
