So you Think you can Braai and Potjie?

19 May 2011 By Alan Straton

The Absa Kirkwood Wildsfees is celebrating and honouring South African outdoor culture with the crowning of the 2011 potjie and braai champions of the Eastern Cape.

The Marina Sea Salt Roer-my-nie Potjiekos and Braai Challenge will be held on Sunday July 3, 2011 at the Absa Kirkwood Wildsfees, hosted by and in aid of the Cheshire Home Summerstrand.

Each team of four members will receive a gift pack just for entering, sponsored by Marina Sea Salt and Die Burger, and will be allocated a half drum to braai or make their potjie.

“There are fantastic prizes for the teams with the winning potjie, winning braai, best presented stalls, first ladies team, and best fellowship,” says organiser, Les Kirkland of Cheshire Home, Summerstrand.

Entry is limited, first come first served.

The entry fee per team is R200 and all proceeds go towards Cheshire Home Summerstrand, which accommodates 54 chronically disabled persons, and has an outreach programme “Khaya Cheshire” for 23 disabled children.

Teams are able to continue to enjoy the Absa Kirkwood Wildsfees programme at no cost. This includes live concerts by Kurt Darren, the Parlotones, Emo Adams, Dr Victor and more, plus food, wine, jazz, shopping, cat and dog shows, wildlife auction, exhibitions and much more.

Entry forms can be downloaded from www.wildsfees.co.za. Proof of payment must accompany the form to be a successful entry.

For more information, contact Les Kirkland at 082 370 2999, 041 583 2183 or cheshiresstrand@telkomsa.net.

The Wheel 'n Crutch potjie team, (left to right) Rodney Lavin and Mike Truscott, will be returning to compete in the 2011 Marina Sea Salt Roer-my-nie Potjiekos and Braai Challenge at the Absa Kirkwood Wildsfees on July 3. Proceeds go towards the Cheshire Home Summerstrand.
