The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has reached an out-of-court settlement with a Port Elizabeth woman, Jolene Sampson, who claimed damages after the 2006 floods. She accused the municipality of negligence. Call for Flood Aid and Donations
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality's Joint Operation Centre (JOC) is currently requesting the public to assist with donations of blankets, mattresses and disposable nappies. If people are in a position to assist they can contact the JOC at 041 501 7992. The South African National Defense Force assisted with a medical relief effort in the Baviaans Kloof at the Cambria Lodge. Deja Vu – Yes it is true!
Steve's flood has finally arrived and once again invaded our precious sanctuary. The overflowing Groendal dam at 118% capacity had to open its gates and the poor village of Redhouse has once again been the casualty as the Redhouse Yacht Club buildings have once again been laid low by flood waters. Thanks to the vigilance of Di and others we managed to get an early warning out, and by 12:00 a lot of members were able to move boats out of harm's way. Dear All Thank you for your outstanding response so far. It has been wonderful. The long and the short of it is that it is very volatile out there at the moment. The residents are angry and demanding action, which is not happening. We feel it is too dangerous to take volunteers in there en masse today, as there will be a stampede. Municipality Cautiously Optimistic After 42 to 139 mm of Rain Recorded
Even though talks of stricter water restrictions are on the cards as combined dam levels slipped closer to 30%, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is cautiously optimistic after good rain was recorded over the weekend. The impact of the rainfall cannot be determined at this stage since it takes about three to four days before the dam levels will reflect the inflow into the dams.
