Missonvale Disaster Report Back

Thank you for your outstanding response so far. It has been wonderful. The long and the short of it is that it is very volatile out there at the moment. The residents are angry and demanding action, which is not happening. We feel it is too dangerous to take volunteers in there en masse today, as there will be a stampede. Our fieldworkers have loaded up every blanket and bit of food that we have and are back there right now, helping out a 78-year old lady whose home is completely under water. She does not want to leave her home, in case it gets burgled. We are going to put together a workparty of volunteers for Saturday. Please email me on hinoon@netactive.co.za if you can be a part of this.

All animals are safe and the people have been taking care of their animals. We have asked them to take them indoors this evening, as more rain is predicted. The human situation is dire, as you can see from the photographs. As a result, the animal situation or lack of shelter for them is also dire. Our pallets are currently all wet, but we have 9 kennels on offer and this is an appeal for any kennels that are available, please email us in this regard. We are desperate for help in collecting kennels and donations. Does anyone have a large truck that we could hire tomorrow for collections?  All financial donations that have kindly come in so far will be used to purchase food, blankets and towels tomorrow and we appeal for newspapers as well. A huge mop-up is necessary and any old carpeting would also be greatly appreciated.

We have drop-off points at 30 Kragga Kamma Road, Sunridge Park, The Bargain Box Shop, 9th Avenue, Walmer and at our Cleary Park Centre, University Road, Cleary Park – opposite the Shell Garage in the parking area of the Cleary Park Shopping Centre, straight along Stanford Road. Donations of blankets and food, both human and animal, would be greatly appreciated. Any towels, newspapers, animal bedding and shelters are all vital.

Have a stroll through the images below for the images from Animal Anti Cruelty of the ‘Missionvale forgotten’. I must say that I did get a chance to try out my new Continental Tyres in 4×4 mode today as I got stuck on a slippery mud slope in the Missionvale area today and successfully negotiated my way out alone and unaided.
