www.MyPE.co.za: After months of planning, weeks of development, days of anxiety and hours of indecision I finally decided to let you have a look at the new MyPE web site.

Things will be a little bit skanky for the foreseeable future as I wrestle with migration of content (Yes or No), 301 re-directs (depending on migration), what to do with the forums (let us know in the comments section below), how to ensure that file permissions are sufficiently permissive but not so permissive that skanky lurkers get a chance to mess with them, what to do with the the Gallery (I actually like the flexibility that the ‘old’ Gallery gives me as a publisher) and a myriad other RTC (resistant to change) items on the list.
In the meantime let me have your feedback in the comments section below (you can place an anonymous comment, set up an account, use your Facebook or Twitter account or even use your OpenID account to comment on any article.
Navigation is relatively easy:
- The main nav bar (highlighted in blue) contains relatively static pages of content.
- The secondary nav bar (below the blue one) contains categorised news articles.
- At the bottom of the page of each article you will find a previous and next link.
- Categories also appear in a drop down in the RHS Sidebar.
- Latest posts appear in the RHS Sidebar
- A calendar of articles appears in the footer of each page – click on the date to see the news for that day.
- The search facility is a Google one that only searches MyPE.
- Clicking on any header image will take you to an article or section relevant to the image.
- Clicking on any of the tags at the bottom of each article will present you with a list of similar articles.
What am I proud of?
- The cleaner look.
- Less clutter.
- Easier to read.
- Easier to navigate.
- Easier Admin.
- And a brand new set of toys to play with.
Additions to the Site:
- Street Views.
- Street Maps.
- Rotating Headers.
- Decent Search Function.
- Tweet button for each article.
- A ‘like‘ function at the bottom of each article.
- The ‘like‘ function also allows you to easily share with your Facebook or Twitter buddies.
- Better Advertising spots.
- Easy Article Submissions, Letters to the Editor and Community News Posts.
- Super Commenting System.
- Author boxes – see Mine or Siyathetha‘s for an example.
What happened to my Flight Schedules, Ward Details, Weather, Forex etc?

I want you to try using any one of these submission forms:
- Letter to the Editor
- Port Elizabeth focused Press Release
- Upcoming entertainment – concert, play, musical etc.
As a community web site primarily serving Port Elizabeth and the greater 041 area I have tried to include elements that will allow you to get information quickly as well as promoting people who submit news of interest to fellow citizens.
I would love to know what you think and will carefully consider any comments, suggestions or criticisms.

The Forum is still there (Somewhere!).
There are some real gems in the forum such as the Reason a Day thread and I will be ensuring that that information is carried over to the new site and also allow people to add to it through the new comments section.
