Every day of our lives we sell; ourselves to our bosses, wives, children and friends; our products to clients; our ideas to investors; our souls to the devil ……
As youngsters on the prowl for a mate every interaction with others is a sales opportunity – the toss of your hair, sucking in of your stomach, puffing of your chest, wetting of your lips, secret glimpse of forbidden skin and flashing cash are all sales techniques that we unconsciously employ/ed.
Selling is all about showing a promise of a benefit, demonstrating success and asking for the order.
With a tangible product the benefit is easy, success is measured and the order normally follows.
Yesterday was one of those days given over to solving problems in our household, specifically a flea infestation that was bothering our animals and ourselves. The method to combat this problem is mundane and not really that sexy – we called Tony Atkinson from Bug Busters to spray the house and Audra from Pet Pamperers to dip the four legged menaces thereafter.
Tony and Audra have already been succesful in helping us solve our problems before, demonstrating that their sales pitches worked and continue to bear fruit.
The Longhair is convinced that I can sell ice to eskimos as well as the fridge to store it in. This ‘reputation’ is quite a daunting one to uphold. Thankfully I have only ever sold or promoted products that I have tried, tested and believe in so the actual sales techniques just naturally fall into place.
Running a community web site is fun. Balancing the needs of making money and having fun can be done (with patience and perserverance).
As Tony from Bug Busters entered the holy of holies – the space housing the heart and engine of MyPE – I asked him if he could confirm the details I have for his listing in the MyPE Business Directory. We got to talking and, as is my wont, I proudly showed Tony statistics and traffic comparisons between MyPE and other local online publications. I confess, the buying signals were there from an early stage, but I am a strange bugger I look for commitment and a meeting of the minds in every prospect before ‘choosing’ them to advertise on MyPE.
I actually like to feel that the person spending money on MyPE advertising has some of the same values as me when it comes to customer service and moral outlook – weird, I know, but just the way it is. Also advertisers instill a great sense of pride in me and often I will over deliver time and time again as a result of my stupid pride!
The reason why you want to do work for me is so that you can be chosen to share this great journey and fun that we have on MyPE.
The reason why you want to use the businesses that pay to advertise on MyPE is because we have, in some way, established that our advertisers are worthy of your patronage.
The reason why you want to make a comment below is because you also like having fun.
