What are you Voting for in the 2011 Municipal Elections?

Local Government is responsible for the delivery of basic services to local communities, such as water and electricity, sanitation, waste removal, building and maintaining municipal roads, regulating municipal transport services and running municipal health services.

Before you make your cross evaluate the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality honestly on the above.

Ponder also on this strange situation:

  • The official opposition is accused of being white, rich and conservative with no desire to ‘look after the poor’
  • The bulk of support and votes for the ruling party will come from those very people that the official opposition is fighting to provide with a ‘better life for all’.

If I was a citizen with no running water, electricity or sanitation I know that I would, at this very moment in time, still be reluctantly voting for the ruling party, BUT, this would be the last time if the status quo remains the same come National Elections.

It is safe to say that the populace has now put the ANC to terms. You can only beat a dog so many times before it runs away!
