The brownish colour of the municipal water supply to Lorraine, Westering, Sunridge Park, Kabega Park, Sherwood, Rowallan Park, Bridgemeade and Framesby is expected to return to normal within the next two days.
The problem came as a result of the water level of the Chelsea Reservoir dropping to 7% early Monday morning following an electricity outage on Sunday at the Nooitgedacht Water Treatment Works. This resulted in pressure on the demand on the rest of the water distribution system and storage reservoirs.
Even though our reservoirs are cleaned on a regular basis to avoid the settlement of particles, we normally do not operate our reservoirs at such a low level to steer clear of an occurrence of this nature.
The water level of the Chelsea Reservoir, that provides safe potable water, is currently around 22% and will increase steadily over the next couple of days.
