Phoenix Hotel Defends their Good Name

2 March 2013 By Port Elizabethan

While we support the publics' right to be informed, and the Weekend Post's right to name and shame, as one of the establishments, who to our horror made your publications top ten list of worst restaurant offenders, we strongly dispute the claims made against us and request the opportunity to set the record straight. Firstly, the reports from health officials in the Weekend Post's possession were in our case dated April 2012. We were then visited by health officials, who compiled a list of … [Read more...] about Phoenix Hotel Defends their Good Name

Amateur cricket clubs lay complaint of fraud – Reaction

28 May 2012 By Alan Straton

EP Cricket Acting President, Vuyo Ntswahlana issued this statement today: "I refer to the article headlined 'Amateur cricket clubs lay complaint of fraud' which appeared in the Weekend Post of 19 May 2012. While it is not the norm to respond to and to resolve issues in the media it is sometimes necessary to respond to speculation that appears in the media. Although the Board has not received any official notification of the alleged complaint laid with the police I wish to point out that … [Read more...] about Amateur cricket clubs lay complaint of fraud – Reaction

Round 9 Results for Ocean Racing Series

13 February 2012 By Alan Straton

Strong off-shore Westerly winds on Hobie Beach, Port Elizabeth, didn't dampen the spirits of just under 300 participants at Sunday's Weekend Post Ocean Racing Series taking part in either the swim or beach events. The Jones siblings continued to dominate the Dis-Chem ocean swimming events despite finding conditions very tough on the morning. Wayne Jones won the 3km swim in a time of 41min 57sec whilst Jason Jones beat his younger brother Daniel by over a minute to win the 1km swim in 15min … [Read more...] about Round 9 Results for Ocean Racing Series

Season 7 undefeated champion in the Dis-Chem 1km Ocean Swim, Jason Jones, was made to work hard for line honours on Sunday morning during round 8 of the fortnightly Series, challenged all the way to the finish line by Series newcomer Bruce Campbell. Jones' younger sibling Daniel was third on the morning which also saw the Billson sisters, Lauren and Natalie, taking out the top two placings in the ladies 1km category ahead of Payton Horton. In the longer course, Dis-Chem 3km Ocean Swim it was … [Read more...] about Jones Pips Newcomer Campbell

Dear Weekend Post – THIS is How you Comport Yourself on the Internet

8 August 2011 By Alan Straton

A week or two ago I had a concern with the Weekend Post 'stealing' one of the images on MyPE and in a fit of pique posted this article: Weekend Post Taking MyPE for a Ride. Our esteemed weekly newspaper then offered me their standard fee for a contributor (at R150.00 I didn't deem it enough for me to retire on, I might add!), and then hinted broadly that I might consider removing the article. I may be a web site hooker but, sorry for you WP, R150.00 is a bit low for such an act of … [Read more...] about Dear Weekend Post – THIS is How you Comport Yourself on the Internet

Weekend Post Taking MyPE for a Ride

17 July 2011 By Alan Straton

I used to wonder just how photographers could recognise their own images amongst the many millions that are published on the internet on a daily basis. I wonder no more as after many years of taking photographs I seem to have developed a style that I, at least, recognise almost instantly. Disturbing to me is that large media houses have increasingly been using my images without even bothering to ask or accredit MyPE or myself as the originator. In the recent past The Daily Despatch and … [Read more...] about Weekend Post Taking MyPE for a Ride

The Fall and Fall of the Slumlord

8 January 2011 By Alan Straton

www.MyPE.co.za: I was tempted to title this piece; "The Rise and Rise of the Slumlord" but that might have intimated that the reign of the Port Elizabeth Slumlords was over and that they have made their buildings rise out of neglect to their former glory! It is a sad fact that out various candidate and fully qualified slumlords are still flipping the bird to the citizens of Port Elizabeth and our so called organs of authority. God forbid that they are actually human organs as we would … [Read more...] about The Fall and Fall of the Slumlord
