Round 9 Results for Ocean Racing Series

13 February 2012 By Alan Straton

Strong off-shore Westerly winds on Hobie Beach, Port Elizabeth, didn’t dampen the spirits of just under 300 participants at Sunday’s Weekend Post Ocean Racing Series taking part in either the swim or beach events.

The Jones siblings continued to dominate the Dis-Chem ocean swimming events despite finding conditions very tough on the morning. Wayne Jones won the 3km swim in a time of 41min 57sec whilst Jason Jones beat his younger brother Daniel by over a minute to win the 1km swim in 15min 40sec. Adri Louw won the ladies 3km swim with Lauren Billson taking the 1km ladies swim. Participants in the Varsity College 5km beach run and walk had a change of course as high spring tides forced them onto the walkway between Hobie Beach and Pollok Beach. Hankey resident Rodney Prins won the run in 14min 38sec with 58 year old Margie Saunders winning the ladies race in an incredible 5th place overall. Colin Korkie and Barbara Foot won the 5km walk whilst over 60 kids under the age of 12 years took to the Kingfisher FM Kids 1km Beach Run or walk. Youngest out there was 1 year old Eric Menken whilst out the front was 11 year old Brad Breetzke for the boys and Samantha Perelson for the girls.

The Weekend Post Ocean Racing Series takes place on alternate Sunday mornings throughout the summer with 3 race days remaining this season. Next race day will be on Sunday 26th February, see www.oceanracingseries.com for full results and further information or join the Ocean Racing Series facebook page for latest news and photographs.
