Asof the time of writing 7041 people had signed the petition. A goal of 100 000 signatures has been set by the petition founder, Cara-Lee Wiese. Drug related crime is up by 87% since the South African Narcotics Bureau was shut down in 2004. During the year that SANAB was disbanded, the SAPS reported 62,689 drug related crimes (2003/2004) but that figure reflects an increase to over 117,172. And increasing every year! The section of Cape Road from Burchel Road (Old Pick 'n Pay Hypermarket) past the turn off to Bridgemeade at Bishops Way and up to the Greenbushes Hotel N2 Turnoff is becoming a major road hazard for commuter traffic.
