Cape Road Traffic Calming Measures Needed

11 July 2011 By Alan Straton

The section of Cape Road from Burchel Road (Old Pick ‘n Pay Hypermarket) past the turn off to Bridgemeade at Bishops Way and up to the Greenbushes Hotel N2 Turnoff is becoming a major road hazard for commuter traffic.

This double income small kid two car (Disk2C) area has seen numerous accidents and near misses as people struggle to get to and from work at peak hours in the morning and afternoon.

The narrowing of the road and increased pressure from commuters trying to avoid the Cape Road traffic closer to the CBD has resulted in many vehicles racing up the N2, taking the Greenbushes turn off and then racing down the Cape Road to Rowallan Park, Bridgemeade and Kabega.

We are appealing to authorities to consider introducing traffic calming measures such as traffic lights at the Bishops Way/Cape Road and Lategan Road/Cape Road intersections ahead of widening Cape Road.

Sign the petition which will be copied to the Ward Councillor and Safety and Security Portofolios.

“We are appealing to authorities to consider introducing traffic lights at the Bishops Way/Cape Road and Lategan Road/Cape Road intersections.”

The Lategan/Cape Road intersection is poorly designed. Widening the entire Cape Road section to be a two- or three-lane road would increase safety.

Traffic lights at the above mentioned intersections would increase safety. As long as the “red-light policy” isn’t implemented, everybody should welcome the implementation thereof.
