Today the DA visited Ilungelo Public School in Kwazakhele, Port Elizabeth, one of the 310 schools gazetted for closure this year by the Eastern Cape government. Less than a tenth of this number of schools were closed in the Western Cape, but for very different reasons. It was a touching moment for a child headed family of three boys, in Nobathane Street, Kwazakhele when they received a newly renovated house from Nelson Mandela Bay Executive Mayor, Zanoxolo Wayile today. The house is one of those identified by Deputy President Kgalema Montlante when he visited Port Elizabeth last year in December. Ahead of the release of her new album, Take me Home, I spent a pleasant 30 minutes chatting to this Port Elizabeth born singer made good. She left Port Elizabeth at the age of 18 after completing her matric at the Seventh Day Adventist school in New Brighton, Port Elizabeth. Nomfusi was raised by her single mother, Kwazibani, while her father served a 21-year prison sentence. At the age of 12 Nomfusi's mother died of AIDS. A group of elderly ladies from the St. Barnabas Church in Kwazakhele were recently surprised by Afri-Save Cash and Carry in Uitenhage, when they were treated to a day out in town by the wholesaler. The group of ladies were picked up in the morning from their church and taken to Greenacres Shopping Centre where they were given some pocket money to spend on anything that their heart desired.
