New life for Provincial Hospital ward
After opening their Aloe Igazi Haematology ward in 2013, the Igazi foundation has launched another exciting project to treat the children of the Eastern Cape who have been diagnosed with Cancer, by opening a paediatric oncology ward in the Provincial Hospital. The Project launch was held at the Marine Protea hotel on Wednesday 2 April, 2014. On 9 May 2012 after extensive lobbying of local government the Aloe Igazi Haemotology unit was officially opened. A scant 12 days later the state of the art unit was dealt a body blow as the Eastern Cape Health Department failed to staff the unit with the promised staff of 22 nurses as, despite having advertised and recruited staff it had yet to appoint them as there was a moratorium (on hiring) because there was no money leaving the unit to stand empty. The Igazi Foundation is proud to announce that after discussions with Doctor Neil Littleton and his staff, it has managed to persuade these disheartened medical personnel to move into the new Outpatients section of the Aloe Igazi Unit on the 7th floor M Block, Port Elizabeth provincial Hospital. Training to reduce circumcision deaths
A group of 31 male professional nurses in the Eastern Cape Department of Health (DOH) who are responsible for the oversight of traditional circumcision programmes have been undergoing specialised training in preventing and stopping bleeding in boys suffering from Haemophilia.
