Busy Day for NMBM Firefighters

The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality's Fire Department had their hands full yesterday wIth their first 6 engine call at 3:20 am to contain a raging fire at the well-known Greenacres Shopping Centre which resulted in extensive fire damage to the Checkers portion of the building, smoke damage to neighbouring line shops and the closing of 26 shops for business. Clicks Greenacres trading as normal after Checkers fire

Clicks Greenacres has not been affected by the fire which broke out this morning at Greenacres Shopping Centre in PE. Michael Harvey, MD of Clicks, has confirmed that Clicks is trading as normal and open for business. “Clicks Greenacres is on the other side of the shopping centre from the fire, so we did not experience any disruptions. Speaking to one of the fireman on the scene this morning he was telling me that someone phoned him from Kimberley before the sun came up this morning as they had already seen reports of the fire on Social Media. With the media barred from entering the shopping centre these images are from outside the Greenacres Shopping Centre from 6:30 am this morning. In a case of hurry up and wait - photographers waited for dark smoke to signal a new outbreak and then photographed that - a bit like watching paint dry. A fire was reported from the Checkers area of the Greenacres Shopping Centre at approximately 2:45 am this morning. NMBM Fire Services despatched 6 fire engines to the scene to attend. At 6:30 am this morning the fire was under control and contained to the Checkers area.
