Greenacres Shopping Centre Fire

26 January 2012 By Alan Straton

A fire was reported from the Checkers area of the Greenacres Shopping Centre at approximately 2:45 am this morning. NMBM Fire Services despatched 6 fire engines to the scene to attend.

At 6:30 am this morning the fire was under control and contained to the Checkers area.

Bewildered shop owners and employees stood by outside and watched as thick smoke still bellowed from the roof of the building this morning.

No injuries have been reported.

Centre security and traffic police cordoned off the Ring Road area surrounding the Checkers, House and Home shops and adjacent strip shopping areas.

Thick smoke could be seen billowing inside the shops and down the strip shopping area.

Apparently the fire has been contained to the Checkers area closest to House and Home. Ankle deep water streams out of the building as firefighters continue their job.

Centre Management will release further details as they become available.
