Greenacres Checkers Fire Update

Greenacres Shopping Centre Management have an update with regards to this morning’s fire in the Checkers building at Greenacres: The fire has been completely extinguished; however there is still smoke in the vicinity.

The area of the mall that was affected by the fire will remain closed today as will the following tenants:

  • Checkers
  • House & Home
  • Spitz
  • ABSA
  • Bargain Books
  • Ackermans
  • Jet
  • Rage
  • Levisons
  • Romens
  • Exact
  • Identity
  • Queenspark
  • Debonairs
  • Froggies at Tinas
  • Health and Comfort Shoes
  • Shoe City
  • Travelex
  • Fragrance Boutique
  • Cut Above
  • Home Comforts (part of Ackermans)
  • Sheet Street
  • Maurice Levin Jewellers
  • Torga Optical
  • Pollocks
  • BT Games

There is no access to the centre via Entrance 1 or 4 and the Ring Road is still partially closed.

However the remainder of the centre is open as usual and shoppers are able to park at the Shoprite and Woolworths side of the centre.

The Fire Department are still investigating the cause of the fire and it seems unlikely that a conclusive finding will be made today.
