Who would have thought…
Who would have thought that covering the CSI initiative by the Boardwalk at Dora Nginza and Livingstone Hospitals would have turned into an opportunity to bring joy into a little patients day? This little patient had a whale of a time as he couldn't decide what delight to experience first - bottled water, custard in a container, pudding, lunch, whistle blowing, high fiving Mickey and Minnie Mouse, playing with his balloon or #Christmas present. It was such a delight to watch this young man … [Read more...] about Who would have thought…

Eastern Cape Premier must intervene in health crisis
The IFP calls on Ms Noxolo Kiviet, the Eastern Cape Premier, to take drastic action to improve the province's health care system, as the Provincial MEC of Health seems to have failed to solve health crisis. IFP spokesperson on Health, Mrs Hilda Msweli MP, said "Pregnant patients in Dora Nginza hospital are being treated on mattresses on the floor due to a chronic shortage of hospital beds. This is a violation of patients' rights. The health MEC is failing to perform his allotted duties - he … [Read more...] about Eastern Cape Premier must intervene in health crisis

College of Medicine of South Africa Comment on ‘Rebel’ Doctors
From information received, it seems as if medical posts in the Port Elizabeth region have either not been filled, unpaid or not renewed and financial constraints are the main reason for this. From reports it appears that the doctors negotiations with the authorities in this regard have not proven to be fruitful. In provincial and state hospitals, the burden of patient numbers and diseases is always high end and often bordering on burgeoning. If there is a significant loss of medical posts, … [Read more...] about College of Medicine of South Africa Comment on ‘Rebel’ Doctors

Special thanks to the staff of Dora Nginza
Dear Editor I recently took my very ill grandchild, little Litha, to the Dora Nginza Hospital on 27 September 2011. She could hardly talk or walk, and was very weak. The hospital staff immediately gave little Litha the most wonderful attention, such as one would expect at one of the Private Hospitals. I saw that the healthcare of my little one was very important to the doctors and nurses on duty, and this was a great comfort to both me and my child. The special care of the staff on duty … [Read more...] about Special thanks to the staff of Dora Nginza
