Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s member of the Mayoral Committee for Economic Development, Tourism and Agriculture Rano Kayser, Mandela Bay Development Agency (MBDA) Board Chairperson Mputumi Phil Goduka and CEO Ashraf Adam were in high spirits as they took the lead at an event held to mark the final push to demolish the old Boet Erasmus stadium. Rayno Kayser who led the municipal delegation said “the … [Read more...] about The End of Days for Boet

Boet Erasmus

Demolition contractors have moved in at old Boet Erasmus stadium to signal the beginning of the end for this once iconic multisport facility of the Bay. The demise of Boet also known as Telkom Park began when the City started construction of the new multi-purpose Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium ahead of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. “The demolition which is expected to take up to three months is just one step of the process to freeing up this prime real estate for catalytic and transformative … [Read more...] about #Dankieboet

It’s the end of days for Telkom Park

7 June 2018 By Alan Straton

Boet Erasmus

The MBDA has received the green light to proceed with demolition of old Boat Erasmus stadium. After many months of a protracted process to obtaining the permit or what is known in the sector as a demolition certificate, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipal Agency can now proceed, clearing the way for the City to leverage this prime piece of land. The process to demolish a structure of this size is fairly complex and drawn out due to the number of role player approvals involved, each with a … [Read more...] about It’s the end of days for Telkom Park

Boet Erasmus Memories

30 September 2014 By Port Elizabethan

Boet Erasmus

The Boet Erasmus Stadium was the home of many fine rugby memories and witnessed the glory of Eastern Province rugby - tough men who were afraid of no-one. Renamed Telkom Park in the 90's the local team never quite attained the heights of the glory days. Come 2009 EP Rugby vacated the Boet and moved to the new Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium built for the FIFA 2010 World Cup. Today the 'Boet' is a ruin as the city battles to find a solution. Watch the video and take one last run through the tunnel and … [Read more...] about Boet Erasmus Memories

Currie Cup Log – Read it and weep

29 September 2014 By Alan Straton

EP Kings Boet Erasmus

Finding ourselves with a few hours in hand the Longhair and I popped in to see the old Boet Erasmus Stadium. In a nod to the millions poured into the stadium and rugby we must also remember that the stadium was renamed Telkom Park. I am sure that you will agree with me, though that 'Battle of the Boet' has a better ring to it than 'Battle of the Telkom' or even 'Battle of the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium'! Much like our present Currie Cup dreams the old Boet Erasmus Stadium lies in tatters as … [Read more...] about Currie Cup Log – Read it and weep

Found – Mr Pink Slippers

Pink Slippers at the Boet Erasmus Stadium

Whilst looking for an image of the old Boet Erasmus Stadium to illustrate this article: You Can’t Take the Boet out of Some Rugby Supporters I found an image of one of the die hard EP Rugby supporters of the 2010 era who used to come onto the field at the beginning of the match to hold an EP Banner aloft whilst wearing the craziest pink slippers. For fear of being 'moered stukkend' I never had the courage to ask him his name or why he wore those slippers. Anyway, for posterity, you can see … [Read more...] about Found – Mr Pink Slippers

You Can’t Take the Boet out of Some Rugby Supporters

12 March 2013 By Alan Straton

13 March 2010 Capacity Crowd

Starved as we are of top flight rugby in the region it saddens me to see how some rugby 'supporters' behave. Some people have a special switch hidden away in the deep recesses of what passes as a brain. Sadly this switch is activated by the intake of alcohol leading to some questionable ape like behaviour. The bad behaviour includes: Booing whenever a rival team takes a kick - NOT sportsmanlike at all Fighting in the stands Ryan-Lee Sharp posted a YouTube video of 'supporters' … [Read more...] about You Can’t Take the Boet out of Some Rugby Supporters
