You Can’t Take the Boet out of Some Rugby Supporters

12 March 2013 By Alan Straton

Starved as we are of top flight rugby in the region it saddens me to see how some rugby ‘supporters’ behave.

Some people have a special switch hidden away in the deep recesses of what passes as a brain. Sadly this switch is activated by the intake of alcohol leading to some questionable ape like behaviour.

The bad behaviour includes:

  1. Booing whenever a rival team takes a kick – NOT sportsmanlike at all
  2. Fighting in the stands

Ryan-Lee Sharp posted a YouTube video of ‘supporters’ fighting at the Southern Kings Sharks game this past Saturday:

Ryan says; “Sharks and Kings supporters clash at Mandela Bay Stadium – 9 Mar 2013: So what happened was, spectators were expecting their seats to be empty but found that someone was already sitting there. The people already sitting there claimed that it was their seats, but could not prove it as their tickets were “taken” from the security at the entrance gate. And so the arguments went on, and the people already sitting, that claimed their tickets were taken, started getting violent…..and so this video was created. I apologize for not getting the first few moments of it, as I did not think it would lead to a fight.”

If you are going to indulge in aggressive behaviour such as this then please rather stay at home and beat your blow up doll into submission.

Some comments from the above video:

  • TheValrian: and thats why i will never back the kings. you never see this sort of behavior at other games. no booing other players.
  • Ryan-Lee Sharp: Actually, all Sharks supporters…..Thank You
  • Daxter ZA: I’ve went to some of these PE rugby games, most people dont even watch the rugby, they just drink and talk shit the whole time. Pathetic bunch of rugby supporters if you ask me.
  • Ryan-Lee Sharp: It’s not the PE supporters, like any other venue, wherever, it’s only a hand full that spoil it for all the rest.
  • Sabrina Thompson: To those of you that wont support the kings because of some bad sportsmanship from the audience… Dont you think thats a little unfair and kind of silly… just because some guy/s starts fights or whatever the case is, does not mean Kings are bad players… You should support them for their talents and skills not by popularity.. #Just saying
  • Anthi Anastasi: Disgrace!
  • Clyde North: i was sitting off to the right of this, was wondering how it started. these okes get lekker rough, i actually saw someone go over the guard rail
  • Hein Mcleod: Common!!!
  • Ross Geldenhuys: I was a few seats back and to the right of this. I only saw the headbutt and guy throw his beer. Didn’t realize it was such a heavy brawl before that. LOL at the lady chasing away the guy afterwards.
  • GooSe763: “no booing other players”…… cool story bro! GO KINGS
  • Jonathan Garisch: They should have been called the Barbarians not the Kings.
  • Judy Grobler: Do you not see the Mr Price shirts? 🙂 Thank you
  • transen1: There were several incidents like this around us that were caused by motherless PE supporters who sat in the wrong seats and then hurled abuse at patrons trying to sit in their allocated seats. The “locals” were a disgrace end of story! Wont catch me there again!
  • David Roets: En daar kom die common toe deur.
  • naikdlyric: I was sitting a few meters away from this. also saw it. There was such a tense atmosphere created because of poor planning at this game. better controls at the gates and seating would help, also, I saw guys with glass bottles in the stands, parents trying to protect their kids from drunken supporters who couldn’t even stand on the feet in the stands. Sad for the game and for PE.
13 March 2010 Capacity Crowd
13 March 2010 A Capacity Crowd at the old Boet Erasmus Stadium!

Needs sorting out quickly as this will change the support the @SouthernKingsSA receive and attitude towards progression in the @MyPE
