The EP Womens team lost narrowly to the Blue Bulls on Saturday in Uitenhage. Playing in the SARU Women's Interprovincial Series the local women lost out on meeting last years champion's Border in the final. The clash in Uitenhage was epic as the teams gave everything on attack and defence to emerge victorious. The battle was so close neither team was able to score points in the first half. Both teams, however, broke through for a try in the second half, but a penalty by the visitors to add to … [Read more...] about EP Queens (?) lose to Blue Bulls in Uitenhage

Do or die for Kings – which do YOU think?

12 September 2014 By Alan Straton

Eastern Province Rugby Logo

In the Blue Bulls vs EP Kings game at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Friday, 11 September 2014, the Kings started the game playing left to right - according to pundits and old rugby experts playing left to right is always a good sign. But that also depends on your perspective, in this case I will say that he side that the media are on is the most important so left to right it is and shall stay so. Seven minutes in with the scores level at 0-0 the EP Kings, after dominating play and … [Read more...] about Do or die for Kings – which do YOU think?

24 August 2014 By Alan Straton

Eastern Province Rugby Logo

The EP Kings travelled to Pretoria for a game against the Blue Bulls on Saturday 23 August. Going into the game, the Blue Bulls and the EP Kings occupied the bottom two spots on the Absa Currie Cup Premier Division log. After a spanking from third placed Golden Lions the week before the men in the black and red hoops could be forgiven for a feeling of trepidation for their second trip up north to face a wily foe with deeper pockets and depth of experience at this level. The SMS and Social … [Read more...] about Three matches down and only one point for the EP Kings

Carlos Spencer

The Southern Kings demonstrated a tighter running style of play in their 66-28 defeat of the Blue Bulls on Friday night in Port Elizabeth. The Southern Kings and Blue Bulls met in a friendly ahead of the start of the Currie Cup leg of the rugby season. Whilst coach Carlos Spencer was very happy with his team scoring ten tries to the Bulls three he noted that the Kings still have a lot to work on as well; "Turnovers are still too high at the moment, our defence needs work with too many … [Read more...] about Spencer happy with Kings performance

Southern Kings fire warning crescendo

20 June 2014 By Alan Straton

The Southern Kings warmed up chilly fans this evening with a fiery display of running rugby. In the process they sent a clear message to South Africa's rugby teams; "Don't send your reserves to play - bring your A-Game!" Admittedly the Blue Bulls didn't bring their A team to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium for the clash - a decision which they may be regretting now, though. The Southern Kings played a good running game and were not afraid to attack from deep in their 22 time after … [Read more...] about Southern Kings fire warning crescendo

Southern Kings 0 (0) Bulls 34 (20)

21 April 2013 By Alan Straton

It is Sunday morning, I and fellow Southern Kings supporters are suffering from a King sized loser's hangover (no Fanta Brown's required to induce such a state) and I am kicking myself for not getting hold of Alan Solomons immediately I read these words on the Super Rugby site the morning of the Kings Bulls game; "The Southern Kings will get to experience the effects of the Super Rugby travel factor first hand when they host the Bulls at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium." I put last nights … [Read more...] about Southern Kings 0 (0) Bulls 34 (20)

Blue Bulls unstoppable at Coca-Cola Under-18 Craven Week

15 July 2012 By Alan Straton

Rohan Jansen van Rensburg of the Blue Bulls

The Blue Bulls hammered the Golden Lions 47-0 in the unofficial final at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on the final day of the Coca-Cola Under-18 Craven Week in Port Elizabeth. In the main match, the Lions were no match for a rampant Blue Bulls outfit, who led 10-0 at the break thanks to a try from centre Rohan Janse van Rensburg and converted by flyhalf Ryno Eksteen, who also kicked a first-half penalty. The boys from Pretoria quickly doubled their advantage when flanker Thabo Mabuza … [Read more...] about Blue Bulls unstoppable at Coca-Cola Under-18 Craven Week
