EP Women to tackle the Blue bulls in Pretoria

9 May 2014 By Alan Straton

The Eastern Province Women’s Rugby team will be travelling to Pretoria to play their second game of the season against the Blue Bulls at Loftus Stadium on Saturday the 10th of May 2014 at 14:40.

There have been a few changes made to the team due to injuries, but hooker, Donna Sdumba still remains captain.

Team manager, Eado Suka was confident ahead of the game, bolstered by her team’s victory against the Western Province at Central Fields in Uitenhage on the 26th of April, which ended in a 15-12 win.

Suka also mentioned that while most of the players were young and inexperienced, they had gained confidence from the senior players in the squad.

“We are confident that we will do better against the Blue Bulls than we did against Western Province. We know that away games are often more difficult than playing at home, but we are more than ready,” she said.

The clash between the Blue Bulls and Eastern Province is expected to be a tight tussle, as both teams boast strong packs and exciting backs. In the Blue Bulls camp former Springbok back Yolanda Meiring will start at scrumhalf and her team-mates will rely heavily on her vast experience and slick distribution to give them an edge on attack. Centre Shona-Leah Weston, who is vying for a place in the IRB Women’s Rugby World Cup squad, will also want to stamp her authority on attack after scoring a try on her 15-a-side debut for the province in their first match.

With the Blue Bulls having scored four tries in their opening match against KwaZulu-Natal, Eastern Province will be expected to produce a strong defensive effort, in particular, to shut out the hosts.

The Eastern Province Team team is as follows: 15. Nojoko Ntombizandile, 14. Windvogel Raylene, 13. Skosana Vuyiswa, 12. Lesley Revonia, 11. Mal Unathi, 10. Manyuka Noluyolo, 9. Fiti Ntombiyethu, 8. Siyolo Namhla, 7. Kobese Sesethu, 6. Mambalu Khayalethu, 5. Soxuza Bulelwa, 4. Witbooi Liezel, 3. Kondile Khanya, 2. Sdumba Donna, 1. Moli Cebisa. Replacements: 16. Mantashe Akhona, 17. Tshungulwana Pamela, 18. Mooi Akhona, 19. Mathanda Sindiswa , 20. Tshingana Siphosethu, 21. Payi Queeny, 22. James Celine
