Lecturers seem to be problem. Really? Get a life!
In The Herald of Monday 10 November I was aghast to read the following; "NMMU says it strives for excellence, yet why when when there are so many failures in the honours class of students studying CA. I say again your lecturers in that particular course are the problem as even third year students seem to be struggling." Signed: PARENT As the parent of one of the students that PASSED I would like to say: Thank you. Thank you for making those students that passed the heroes that they … [Read more...] about Lecturers seem to be problem. Really? Get a life!
I couldn’t be prouder
Allow me a little self indulgence here: The Longhair and I had a little celebration today after Philip received notification that he had passed his BCom Accounting Honours. To us what makes his achievement so much greater is that in the four years it took to successfully pass these degrees he never had one failure or one rewrite - a stunning achievement. A sad day too as Philip leaves the family home next year to start articles at EY in Johannesburg. … [Read more...] about I couldn’t be prouder

Muir College matric pupil Lyle Ressouw has come first in his grade for the past eight years - and continued his winning streak at Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University's winter school for maths and accounting, coming first overall for maths and second for accounting. No mean feat when you consider that Ressouw - who won a Samsung Galaxy tablet for his maths achievement and a R1000 Greenacres gift voucher for accounting - was up against 500 fellow accounting pupils and 350 maths pupils in the … [Read more...] about Uitenhage’s Lyle Resouw excels at winter school

He may have just begun his tertiary education but the Eastern Cape's top matricutant Matthew Walker is already working towards his latest long-term goal: to graduate at the top of his class. A little thank you goes a long way
Growing up in the dusty, rural village of Gaphaahla, Limpopo, surrounded by female relatives who were all domestic workers, Setlogane Manchidi could easily have followed the same path as most of the village men and become a gardener. Instead, he had teachers who saw potential in him - and a mother who never stopped telling him education was important - which led to his pursuing university studies, despite the odds against him. Manchidi, now head of corporate social investment at Investec, … [Read more...] about A little thank you goes a long way
