Following interactions with Members of Parliament (National Assembly) and Members of the Eastern Cape Provincial Legislature, Nelson Mandela Bay’s Deputy Executive Mayor, Councillor Chippa Ngcolomba, has initiated a process to expedite land rezoning applications.
“The National Assembly’s Chief Whip, Honourable Stone Sizani, was very assertive in expressing his sentiments that land rezoning applications are not processed fast enough in Nelson Mandela Bay. This of course has a direct bearing on investment, new business openings, job creation and infrastructure development in the Bay,” said Deputy Mayor Ngcolomba.
“I have therefore initiated a process whereby rezoning applications and decisions thereon will be expedited. Through the Office of the City Manager, I have requested the relevant officials in the Human Settlements Directorate to provide my office with the full details in respect of all land rezoning applications, including respective dates received, mitigation measures, review dates, challenges to the applications, and progress reports for each.”
The Deputy Executive Mayor together with the relevant portfolio chairpersons, including Human Settlements and Economic Development, will convene a special session within the next two weeks where the rezoning applications with their respective details will be tabled and expeditiously addressed.
