Due to the continuation of repairs on the Maitlands Pipe crossing, the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality calls upon residents to use water sparingly in the next few days. This appeal is based on the possibility that if residents fail to use water sparingly, the reservoirs may run empty, leading to water shortages in some areas.
The initial plan was to have the pipeline fixed by now, but due to the bad weather experienced over the past few days, work had to be placed on hold.
Repair Programme:
- Monday, 8 June 2015: Isolation of pipe and draining the pipe via scour valves.
- Tuesday, 9 June 2015: When the pipe is empty, inspecting the seal. Contractor to clean, prepare and install seal (+ -8 hours). Starting to refill the pipe and, when full, opening the isolating valves.
- Wednesday, 10 June 2015: System will start filling and it will take about 48 hours for the whole system to be filled before it will return to normal. As a result, all citizens are asked to use water sparingly during this period.
Should you have the need to fill any containers, please do so before Saturday, because after this the additional draw-off will deplete the reserves.
The areas that could possibly experience water interruptions during this period include Blue Horizon Bay, Seaview and Kini Bay.
Again, residents are urged to assist by using water sparingly, as over-use could cause unnecessary interruptions in some areas.
