There were no recorded disruptions to service delivery in Nelson Mandela Bay yesterday as over 80% of employees reported for work. All refuse collection trucks worked according to schedule, the sewerage plants functioned as usual and electrical and water related services were rendered.
Only the Fresh Produce Market experienced a serious staff stay away yesterday, inconveniencing shoppers.
Nine customer care centres in Daleview, Khayamnandi, Despatch, Mthombolwazi, Motherwell Shopping Centre, Mfanasekhaya Gqobose Building, Cleary Park, Zwide, Korsten, and New Brighton are closed today as a result of the strike.
Customers who need to pay their municipal accounts can do so at any branch of Standard Bank, any Post Office, or by phone (041 506 5524), debit order, or via internet banking.
Once payments are made, customers should fax proof of payment to 041 506 1442 or 041 506 1304
If a customer’s supply is disconnected they must use the above alternative ways to pay all arrears reflected on their statement and fax the receipt to 041-506 1422 for reconnection.
A strike management team with representatives from a number of municipal directorates and the South African Police Services has been set up at the Service Delivery Joint Operation Centre and they are monitoring the situation continuously using closed circuit television cameras, amongst other methods.
