It needs to be said that we must return to fair employment practise that encourages excellence ONLY. We are all aware of the standard employment practise doctrine of BEE that is written in a fairly apologetic way and that does not encourage service excellence at all. I propose that the time has come for some radical change and wonder which municipal administrator has the guts to strive for excellence by attaching the following note to any recruitment ads:
The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is committed to employment practices that redress past imbalances in respect of laziness, bribery, undue influence and stupidity, and as such the relevant policy will be considered during selection and placement.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified persons for appointment to the under-mentioned position. Only persons with a strict work ethic and dedication to the city are encouraged to apply.
In compliance with the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s Employment Excellence Plan, suitably qualified applicants will be required to demonstrate their unwavering commitment to budgetary constraints, work excellence, long hours and exemplary customer service.
Now, as a customer who is aware that the municipal employee that you were dealing with had passed the above test, wouldn’t you feel a whole lot more confident and willing to invest in our city?
