9 February 2024: The inaugural Nelson Mandela Bay Tourism Awards (NMBTA) has been announced to celebrate and recognize tourism excellence in Business and Leisure Tourism in Nelson Mandela Bay. LLB-student Varonique Philander won the Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University Excellence in Leadership award for women. She received the award at NMMU's Achievers' Dinner to recognise excellence in student activities. She was the president of the student society, Students in Free Enterprise (SIFE).
