Mystery Ghost Bus and Algoa FM Apology

11 November 2011 By Alan Straton

Dear PE Express, East Coast Radio and MyPE.co.za

I wish to apologise for, and also retract, my e-mail of 31 October – Halloween Tour cancelled due to ALGOA FM – which I sent whilst I was upset with Algoa FM, and in which I did not intend to cause harm and the like, especially since I am not this type of person.

I have been advised by my attorneys to meet with Algoa FM, to resolve the issue of why “Rose Trehaven’s Haunted Walk” (who charges a ticket price, and who runs many tours, and wonderful they are) is freely publicised versus our tours not being freely publicised, and it is hoped that this issue might be explained by Algoa FM, and perhaps even solved by them and myself. Anything that arises after this, would be handled with the advice of our attorneys, and in this way, to ensure that no harm and the like is intended. It never was. Instead, I only have the East Cape public’s best interests at heart, for it is they who begged us over years to present our tours in Port Elizabeth (which is actually my home town).

At this juncture, please note that the Mystery Ghost Bus no longer runs in Port Elizabeth, but which matter I can not delve into right now. I do however want to thank the PE Express (and Bay FM) for all their free publicity (we can not afford extensive paid advertising at just 60 seats for our tour, as I am sure is understood).

Also, may I take this opportunity, to thank East Coast Radio, for publicising our tours freely, which in addition to all the other free publicity given by all the other radio stations, plus the community papers and major press, in Durban – has allowed Durbanites to have, and enjoy, the Durban version of our countrywide tours. For some years the Durban public also literally begged for us to present the tours in Durban.

May I also add to two (2) comments made on the MyPE.co.za site in which one person seemingly did not understand the paid advertising problem (ie: only 60 seats), and another spoke about ‘being on the coach all the time, and not walking, the latter being done’ on Rose Trehaven’s Haunted Walk’. We do afford paid advertising, however this is severely limited due to financially viability, and only affords us a handful of adverts in the Herald/Weekend Post and Die Burger at best, which is the least expensive, and thus most affordable, to us. Thus, it is not true that we want a ‘free ride’. If anything, we do the tours more for fun, as they are definitely not money-spinners. In fact, as stated some time back, we are happy not to run the tours in Port Elizabeth, however the public do ask us to. This must surely show that we are neither ‘on the take’, nor are we ‘on the make’, as the tours are, as just stated, not money-spinners. Secondly, to address the other comment, the reason for the coach, is so that we can travel far & wide, and the coach actually stops, and people do then walk to venues, and in fact see them up close.

In closing, we have never had any intention to defame or damage Algoa FM in any manner, and we hope that they will meet with us, soon.

Sincerely

Mark Rose-Christie

But, you see that he “wants to do PE a favour” by operating his Ghost bus (for financial gain) here. Seems he has not learned much through this interaction or thinks we’re all plebs…

It does seem that he wants PE folk to think he is doing us an favour.  I know many local tour operators who offer excellent tours in and around the city, many who only have 6 or 7 seats to sell and thus have even less money to advertise and promote their tours, but you don’t see them demanding free advertising and promotion for their tours. He also seems a bit “naar” because he seem to think Rose Trehaven is getting free exposure through the events guide on Algoa.  If he can afford going to an lawyer to get advise on this issue, why doesn’t he rather use that money for advertising.
